I'm over AirBnB's. The extra fees are ridiculous and make it not worth it over a hotel. It never ends up being the fabulous property and experience it's hyped up to be. The beds are usually atrocious. The furniture in general is cheap, and dirty. And you don't feel as safe as you would at a hotel.
|
| there was a lull in oct but bookings have ramped up. lots of people are trimming down international travel to do local airbnb vacations because of the recession |
| Article in the daily mail about it today https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11379203/Airbnb-reports-record-revenue-2-88B-warns-risks-inflation.html |
| Things are opening up. Nowt hat my kids have been able to get vaccinated, I'm looking at flying destinations instead of driving trips. Also, for the price I was paying to rent AirBnbs in the Shenandoah/Eastern Shore/OBX... in 2020-2022, I was able to get 4 tickets to Florida and a week long condo rental in 2023, even with inflation. So that's what we're doing for now. As prices get higher, we will probably switch back to local trips. |
|
I an personally growing lukewarm on Airbnb and now if I want a house or condo go through a local rental agency or stay in a hotel/suite. There have been so many tales of bad outcomes with both Airbnb and VRBO I am nervous to risk it.
Also, “The economy, stupid.” |
| I'd rather stay in a hotel than run the risk of arguing with some crazy owner with zero help from airbnb. |
| Same here. Was considering travel recently and totally taken aback by Airbnb all in costs. Like seriously? There's no pool, hot breakfast, easy cancellation, room cleaning and you want to charge me waay more than a hotel? Sorry, not worth it. |
|
I honestly had no idea people were using AirBnB as a hotel alternative.
I use them all the time when I need a full house and have never had a bad experience, but if I only needed a single room in a place where hotels exist, Airbnb wouldn't even cross my mind. It just seems strange to me that all of a sudden people are realizing using an Airbnb as a hotel isn't as good as getting a hotel. "I rented a room in some random person's house instead of staying at the Motel 6 across the street and it wasn't as good as the hotel who have literally been doing this specific business for decades." Whoda thunk?! |
|
Do the owners clean the unit? Do you think they do a good job? If they get outside help, how reliable can that be with the labor shortages and no guaranteed days and times?
At a hotel, at least you get some clean sheets and nice folded towels that look laundered. |
Not really, we've noticed flight costs have doubled and that is having people look at airbnbs in more local areas. |
not really, hotels are the lowest quality staffed with the lowest pay as they pay peanuts, the cleaning companies rather charge Airbnb rates to owners as their reviews rely on cleaning. |
|
AirBnB owner (Rehoboth) here. Booking were non-stop at my place through mid-October - literally, every day booked. Since then, it has been crickets and for the first time in years my place is sitting empty a few nights a week. Dropped prices, cut out fees, and it is not helping much.

Totally agree. On vacation, I go to hotels for the anonymity and knowing that I don't have to do anything. Look at how many people order room service or eat in the hotel despite the high prices. They want convenience and not have to exude effort in anything. With AirBnB, you have to mess around with finding your way in, reading the welcome binder, getting groceries, deal with glaring neighbors nextdoor, do the cleaning and other exit procedures. |
Of all the rental units we've stayed in recently, I can't recall any of them having had a spectacular cleaning job. At least at a hotel you can raise the issue and have it addressed. |
