APS calendar options are here

Submitted that I prefer option 3 just now but with the commend to consolidate these single days off into a week. As someone posted, it would be nice to have week off mid fall sometime, half week for Thanksgiving, 1.5 weeks for Christmas, 1.5 week in the spring instead of day off here and there.

I think they’re going to use the two later start date options as spoilers - option one will likely have more votes than either two or three, because they are so close and people will just pick one or the other. But I guarantee that if you add two and three it will trounce option one. Say no to early starts!

Eid falls on a Saturday, April 21st, for 2023, which is this school year's calendar. For 23-24 calendar options, it falls on April 10, 2024.

I don't mind the early start. If they'd also had an option with an early end! But I don't want to start Aug 21 and end June 14th. Pull that June date up a week, and I'd vote for it.

That’s not possible with all the holidays.

If we can start on 8/28 than it is actually possible. Shorten winter break or get rid of the all the 1 off holidays in the fall.

As a parent and a teacher I absolutely don’t want to go back on August 10. That is way too early, especially when we don’t get out any earlier. I want to enjoy summer with my kids and not be stuck in a building where the AC is not working probably 75% of the time in one of the hottest months of the year. I’m voting option 2 or 3.

They absolutely need to return to 5 days of preservice if they choose option 1.

Option 3 is ok in that regard. Having a 4-day week after a long break is easier than a full week and at least it's 2 consecutive days separated by one day off rather than the obnoxious 1 day on/1 day off/2 days on nonsense that we apparently cannot avoid in November (election day/Veterans day week!)

They could avoid it by not having veterans day off and/or talking to the county about moving polling locations so they aren't in schools. Using schools as polling locations made more sense before it meant schools would have to be closed to accommodate it.

Move parent teacher conferences to Election Day, would be great since many people vote at their local elementary school

Ok but I don’t and I am a teacher. My employer should allow me time to vote.

To be clear, you’re a teacher who is saying you need Election Day off from school so that you can vote? Come on. You are giving teachers a bad name.

Be an adult, I don't get election day off. If i want to vote, I do it before work or mail in a ballot..

I appreciate that Election Day is a work day for teachers and students aren’t in the building since they are nearly all polling locations. Security at schools is minimal and that’s a lot of extra people on a school campus. Of course it’s unlikely anything would happen, still seems like a good choice since they are going to have a workday around then anyway. I don’t think there are any real teachers arguing that they need the day off to vote.
