How much of the program was dedicated to religious propaganda and how much was dedicated to Chinese classical dance? Because if most of it was dance with a religious voice-over, I don't see this description as inaccurate. And honestly, that description (advertising "a portal to ... enlightening wisdom") doesn't seem super atheist to me. If the KC is required to put every reference to every possible point that might be offensive or triggering to some in their ads, they'd run out of space. |
| Thank you OP for starting this thread. I had no idea. I was meaning to buy tickets but now I am definitely not! |
That sounds like an accurate description to me. The Kennedy Center hosts cultural performances by American Indian tribes too. Many are spiritual in nature. Will you also demand trigger warnings? Why are atheists such fragile little snowflakes who lack conviction in their value systems? |
OMG, what made you reach that conclusion? what did I say that made it clear to you that I am pretty clearly a racist and hate-filled anti-theist? |
Shen Yun is advertised as a representation of thousands of years of Chinese culture, not fundamentalist religious propaganda. I have no interest in supporting a fundamentalist religious organization. I didn't use the name "cult" because I noticed how easy you get triggered. |
Would you call the anti-evolution stand as a portal to enlightening wisdom? |
Frankly, I’d be more concerned about what the Chinese Communist Government is doing to these peaceful people. Why aren’t you? |
| I fell into this trap a few years ago. i ended up writing a letter of complaint to them and they refunded the money. I called it sponsoring propaganda. |
Why are you opposed to accurate descriptions of performances? I have limited time for performances. I don’t want to waste hours of my life (or a single cent) on crap like this. |
Or supporting Trump? |
Which show was that! |
You still haven’t answered. Why are you afraid of the KC being transparent? |
I can be concerned about how the Chinese government treats these people and - at the same time - be upset about the way they misrepresented their show to get my money. If I support a cause, I want to be fully aware of what they use my money for. |
I have a better idea. I can raise awareness on public forums and on social media. Next time when I see Shen Yun in town, I will come back and post a warning about the scam they are running. Those who are comfortable supporting a fundamentalist religious organization can still go and see their show. Those who are easily triggered by nothing burgers like science denialism will be aware what they are getting into. |
I would not say that I lack conviction in my value system. My concern is that you religious people learned that it is ok to believe in something with no evidence whatsoever. That affects not only me, but the whole country (see how many Republicans believe that the election was stolen). So why would I support a fundamentalist religious group? |
