2022 graduation without any jobs offered

I replied upthread that my kid was able to get internships and jobs. One of them was on the Hill - so, not cancelled.

I think most kids have a job nailed down by now.

Do you think companies are just chomping at the bit for a history major? McDonalds is hiring.

STFU. You need better hobbies than posting trash here.

Which was offered to her on a silver platter.

Try USAJobs.com. Type in History. Lots of agencies use these degrees: National Park Service, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, National Endowment for the Humanities, to name just a few. Although she probably could've started sooner but no worries, life is long.

Covid-19 shut down didn't happen until March 2020, long after your teen should have already had a summer 2020 internship locked up. And summer 2021 was basically back to normal with plenty of full remote options. Making all of these excuses for your adult kids just sound like you're in serious denial.

Not true.
All the internships in our private lab were cancelled as they could not be performed remotely.

My kid’s internship on Capitol Hill was cancelled.

My child’s internship was moved to remote. Good internships at good companies found a way to adapt. Crappy government internships apparently did not.

Wow.

Review resume, apply more and don’t limit yourself to certain jobs, expand your targeted fields. History major is fine if one has good analytical skills as well as good written and speaking skills.

Not only does it suggest UVA made a mistake it may suggest helicopter mom’s prodding, pushing and perhaps more (ex. literally applying to colleges on the kid’s behalf) was an inauthentic version of the kid. Left to his own devices outside of helicopter parents for 4 years, we have this. A barren resume and no job.

No offense, but it’s because she is a history major in 2022. I was a history major out of UVA in 1990 and had the same problem. The degree didn’t and doesn’t translate directly to any particular job. So I went to law school 2 years later.

Very few undergrad liberal arts majors (sociology, psychology, French, religious studies, gender studies, etc etc ) translate to a job. I was a history major and went to Yale Law. DW you s a history major and became a journalist snd now us in public affairs. DD was a history major at UVA and is now doing grad work at Cambridge

I wonder how many lazy kids lied to their parents in 2020 and 2021 about losing a non-existent internship to the point the gullible parents to this day still think millions of college internships were cancelled. What hard luck, the same kids got hosed two summers in a row are the same kids still without a job at graduation. Meanwhile, every go-getter in the class of 2022 had verifiable employment in both summer 2020 and summer 2021 and had full-time offers by no later than Sept 2021. Sorry to say even slacker kids in our orbit were literally bragging how they were getting money for basically nothing in remote internships in 2020 and 2021...

Every real internship was seamlessly moved to remote. Pandemic just gave immature kids an easy lie. Terminally unambitious kids lying to their parents and the parents who cultivated the spoiled layabout kids buying it hook and sinker, what else is new.

This is rude accusing them of lying. We don’t know nothing about them. Mine had internships and secured a job during first semester of senior year but many of her hard working and smart peers weren’t as lucky. I’m sure they’ll go to grad school or do other things and eventually find good opportunities. Be kind to other parents.

Most pre-meds are taking gap year or going to grad school or research before applying to med school. They won’t be earning a decent living for at least 10 years after undergrad, doesn’t mean they are a failure.
