| Anyone is in the same boat as my DD? History major from UVA without any jobs offered so far. |
I think I see the problem. |
| It's been what two weeks? |
| OMG, this crazy parenting continues after graduation too?!?!? |
I think most kids have a job nailed down by now. |
Needs to get on Linkedin, connect with alums, apply for jobs, connect with groups. Did they intern anywhere? |
DD has been looking since Jan '22. Lot of interviews but no jobs offered so far. |
| Mine just has not put any effort in to a job search. I assume after a week of living at home with us again, he will be highly motivated to start. |
Do you think companies are just chomping at the bit for a history major? McDonalds is hiring. |
| What type of job is she looking for? |
Don’t count on it, unless you start charging rent and splitting bills. Failure to launch is as much on the parent side as it is on the kids. |
It’s *champing* at the bit. |
History majors do fine in finding jobs. Majors don't determine your job for 90% of fields. Just pre-professional programs. She needs to be thinking about what kind of job she wants, working with career services. If she's had lots of interviews and no jobs, she's on the right track but she may want to work on her interviewing skills. See if the career center does mock-interviews (in person or on zoom) and she can get some practice. |
| How many jobs has she applied to? Hopefully at least 100 |
| She can do tons as a history major. She should consider nonprofit work. |
