S/O family all sharing one room in vacation

Sleeping with a TV or light on is really bad sleep hygiene. It’s not a skill you brag about.

We do hotels when we're on the road or in transit, like flying into a new city really late. Other than that, it's been Airbnb or cheaper hotel suites in a pinch. My little guy is 3, fights naps, and needs naps. Hotel rooms just don't work. I'm not hiding in the bathroom for two hours. The kids sleep terribly in bed together as the little guy kicks and flips all night. DH snores. And then the little guy is up at 6:30am. Having two rooms means one parent has the possibility of sleeping in on vacation.

We don't do fancy resorts or all-inclusives because the cost of two rooms is usually so much higher than a two bedroom Airbnb. In other words, we skip the fancy stuff so that we can have more space and better sleep, which translates into a better vacation for all. And if you book well in advance, you get plum choice of Airbnbs, meaning finding something great in your price range.

When I was a kid, we always shared one room. Had Airbnb existed, I bet we would've gone that route.

Lol I’m 40 and still share a room—even a bed—-with my mom on the rare occasions we go somewhere alone together.

If you can’t afford two rooms, you shouldn’t be going on vacation.

That’s sweet. My mom and sister tagged along on a work trip I was on and we all shared a room.

When I was 20 years old, my parents and I (not my brother) and my friend travelled to England. The first night there we all shared one hotel room. My friend and I shared a bed. There we were with the tv on, bedside lamps on, I was reading/drifting off to sleep. And my friend was so annoyed. She asked my parents to turn off the lights and tv, they refused. Friend had a sleep mask and ear plugs but couldn't fall asleep, and she complained incessantly. That was the first time I thought "oh, maybe not everyone is used to falling asleep with lights and a TV on."

Anyway, my only child is 10. A few months ago was the first time he slept in his own room at an air BNB. He's usually too freaked out to sleep alone when not at home. Even at our relative's lake house we visit 3x per year, he still shares a room with us. He'd hate having his own hotel room and has no problem sleeping with a light on or even the tv.

Your parents staying in the same room as your 20 year old friend is very creepy/weird.

we shared one room as long as we all fit. started adding extra to vacations in college. now the ideal is getting a 3 bedroom place.

just went on a cruise. three rooms. kids are 28 and 30.

Do you guys actually sleep like that? I am a light sleeper and so is my preschooler so if we were all in the same room with my crazy sleeper ( thrashes wildly in her sleep) we would be so cranky after a couple of days. We don’t need a lot of space but I really like to at the least have the kids separated, especially since at least one of them typically wakes up early in a new place. I hate being exhausted on vacation!!!

I think it's fine for same sex siblings to share a bed, even as teens, but not opposite sex siblings after age 10.

We're a family of 6, so we've always had to get 2 rooms to make things work. We usually get 1 room with a king bed (parents) and then 1 room with 2 double or queen beds for the kids. We have 2 boys and 2 girls.

My kid sleeps with dad and I take the other bed when young. Now we bring an air mattress.
