+1

Also, the food and the weather, both horrible. I cannot imagine living there.

The food…are you kidding me? Did you eat all your meals at Bubba Gump’s? New Orleans has AMAZING food.

Acapulco. Very dirty and it felt dangerous.

My husband had been wanting to take me to Maine for 20 years and we went last summer. Everyone was telling me how amazing and wonderful Maine is, but I found it very meh. Pebbly beaches, too cold water, terrible food (outside of oyster/seafood places) and it was either poor and depressing or overly touristy. We spent a week driving and visiting 3-4 different places, and I didn't find one place I liked. The motel/hotel quality is also very middling.

I found LA underwhelming the two times I've been there, and wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

Meanwhile, I very much enjoyed Costa Rica, Aruba, Cambodia, and New Orleans on past trips.

As with everything, YMMV.

Anyone who complains about the food in Maine is doing it wrong.

Did you spend the whole week in Aroostook County?

I'm not sure I actually had any expectations that it would be fun, but I found Charlotte to be the most boring city I've ever been to.

People who are saying Costa Rica need to get out of San Jose and Jaco.

The last time I visited Madrid, in many of the neighborhoods I had the same experience. It was very upsetting to me, actually, because in the 1980s when I lived there it had so much character. It’s a shame.

Berlin — the weather was rainy and I was bored to death.

Alaska — way overrated.

I didn't have expectations, per se, but I was not expecting the area around Mammoth Cave in KY to be THAT depressing. Oof.

Amsterdam.

Bad food in New Orleans? I can’t believe my eyes! What have you been smoking PP?

We went on an Alaskan cruise before we had kids and it was amazing! We’re not cruise people AT ALL but it’s the best way to see Alaska. The stops were amazing- kayaked with otters and eagles, hiked in Juneau, cool little shops and scenery in Ketchikan. Seeing the glaciers from our balcony on the boat.. I’ll never forget it.

We were planning on stopping in Savannah on a trip next month but we literally couldn't find a good hotel with good reviews. Every hotel had bad reviews. It was crazy. We finally dropped the whole place from our itinerary.

The Perry Lane hotel is very nice and easy walking distance from good restaurants, shopping, etc...

This is heresy I know but Florence. Too crowded and touristy, did not care for Renaissance art (1000 Marys, Madonna, crucifixes, etc).

You haven't taken a good art history class then to appreciate the art!

No, not San Diego!! I loved it there so much we even went back. The weather is absolutely perfect. The little gas lamp district. Padres game. Such a cool town. Not to mention the golf. I kinda want to move there.

Ah well, no accounting for taste!

Mine:
Hawaii
London (though I go a lot for work and have come around some, I was super unimpressed first time)

London is my favorite city!

Charleston. We thought it sounded like a perfect place to eventually retire to, but we did not enjoy our visit that much. I was so sad about it!

My children absolutely loved old town Alexandria though, where we stayed - the cobblestones, restaurants, shopping, waterfront.

I agree with this. DC is perhaps the most bland city in the country.

Native here and agree. Exciting times in DC is talk of GS pay scales and TSP returns. City also doesn’t have much character. All the natives have been priced out for condos and Whole Foods.

You hush your mouth! Whole Foods is coming back to Glover Park, eventually, someday, so help us god. It’s the only thing keeping the neighborhood together since good guys shut down.
