I loved it but I'm Southern and I like the spooky Southern Gothic thing. Plus the food was amazing!

Agreed, I love Savannah! I also love the picture that the PP posted and thought was creepy. There's something about spanish moss that is whimsical and relaxing in a way - you know you're in the low country.

Whoa Rome pp, where in Rome did you visit? Rome was one of my fave cities ever.

I agree with Nice, France pp, was not my scene. Monaco on the other hand, .

For me the most recent disappointments were Boulder, CO and Pittsburgh, PA. Boulder I got sick from the elevation and drinking (didn’t know your were supposed to take it easy), and I also had always thought it would be gluten free Mecca, but it turns out a lot of the gluten free stuff was also vegan, not what I wanted lol.

Pittsburgh is probably expected, just didn’t get the hip factors that are often described. Just seemed kinda run down and meh.

I will close with I want to visit Paris so badly, I want Paris syndrome, hope I make it there in next few years.

I had no expectations of St Louis, MO but I absolutely hated every minute I was there.

Haha, Dublin was a place that I had absolutely no expectations for and I was blown away by how much I loved it!

Egypt. Disgusting. McDonald’s by the pyramids. Blegh

Buenos Aires. Never been so bored in my life and I don’t eat red meat

Munich. So boring. I just can’t.

Geneva. I just fell asleep remembering when I lived there and have never been so bored in my entire life

Monaco. Why bother.

Loved Melbourne. And lived in Buenos Aires for six months - loved it deeply.

We were planning on stopping in Savannah on a trip next month but we literally couldn't find a good hotel with good reviews. Every hotel had bad reviews. It was crazy. We finally dropped the whole place from our itinerary.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned NYC. Fillthy, overpriced, filled with horrible people.

This is heresy I know but Florence. Too crowded and touristy, did not care for Renaissance art (1000 Marys, Madonna, crucifixes, etc).

Same for me. And way too hot in the summer with no street trees or shade.

Galway is so much better. Though I loved the Guiness Storehouse. The big history museum was good too it had a lot of ancient artifacts.

I also don't like seeing any of the British colonizer stuff. So Dublin Castle was a no for me. In fact many of the castles that tourists enjoy in Ireland are English. Basically if it looks nice and you can stay there- it's probably English. My family Castle has been rebuilt to a certain extent but the original was destroyed in the 1600s.

Were you with my in-laws? They can do that.

It’s no Paris, but there is a phenomenal zoo, a cool and enormous city park (I think I read maybe as big as Central Park?), good symphony and museums, a small but cool area of restaurants and galleries and bars and stuff (U. City/the Hill). But again, doesn’t make up for my spouse’s family.

I went for a wedding of a friend of my boyfriend at the time. The family hosting the wedding were rude and unwelcoming. The city was the most segregated place I had ever been- and I'm from Richmond, VA. The family lived in a gated neighborhood in a fancy house but right down the block were people living in terrible conditions.

I was very not surprised to see those white idiots standing outside of their homes with guns were in St Louis.

My own fault for poor research, but I was expecting something quieter and less developed...more exotic. Instead I got traffic jams and Walmarts. It felt like Florida with better scenery. Which makes sense since it's a state.

Did you stay in Honoulu? Other parts of Oahu are much more remote and tranquil but also lower SES of the residents so you see a lot of run down little villages.

My answers would be Honolulu and Aruba.

Good ones! I too thought Pittsburgh was a dreary and depressing miners town. And Boulder did not live up to the hype. However, Philly and Denver are great.

I like Savannah and have been a few times. Every other square is a little park with old trees and moss. Very charming. Although I went when I lived closer so maybe I would be disappointed if I drive all day?

I liked Asheville ok but some people rave about it so I had higher hopes.

I enjoyed Disney as a whole more than expected, but the Magic Kingdom was kind of a disappointment. Way too many "rides" that were really just sitting and looking at animatronic crap. I don't need to wait 45 minutes to see a bunch of dolls in a cave sing It's a Small World.

Thank you for saying this so I don’t feel insane. That thread about spending 14k on a Disney vacation made me feel nuts because I cannot imagine spending that much to see Small World and the Hall of Presidents, sit in the Tiki Room, etc. I don’t get the appeal at all, and I have been as a child and adult.
