UMich's president was just FIRED (board caught him having an affair with UMich employee)

If we view any person in such position a full independent being, can we let her make that decision herself? If it's love, it's love. If you find it offensive, you are not considering everyone equal.
this is real life. Today. Not 1838 or whatever.

This doesn’t say anything about the university or educational experience. This was just one dumb guy, nothing to do with university overall—no problems with culture, finances, internal control, etc. Great school.

In the corporate world, these types of terminations happen as well. Relationships with subordinates are prohibited, or at a minimum, show incredibly bad judgment.

Well at least both people get fired. Here only one person got fired. These rules are horrible. Many people meet their future husbands at work. If a woman wants to date a man who is established and making money why should she be restricted?

Can we stop acting like this was some babe in the woods? She was a long-time employee, his age, and made $200,000 a year plus lavish fringe benefits and pension.

If the gig was so plum why are the multi-millionaire president's emails indicating he was clearly bored out on his mind, miserable, and lonely in Ann Arbor's depressing grey and cold flyover country — and eating garbage low-quality pizza college kids eat when they're blackout drunk.

Haha! So much for your knowledge. He didn’t even order Pizza! Seriously, it’s obvious this guy has major character flaws. Probably manifested by his time in the sunny and exciting state of New Jersey.

Good riddance. Arrogant jerk who totally mishandled Covid and many other issues.

Oops, forgot to mention Cornell!

Twice, in fact! And then there’s a third if you go back a bit further, who is considered the greatest and most important Cornell president in the modern post-War era.

Imagine being so painfully insecure you google this nonsense during work hours. Bless your heart for proving my point.

Ummm, I didn’t have to google anything, but nice try. I knew/know all three of them, and I’m not sure what point you think I proved as I am a Cornell alum. I just can’t abide your idiocy. But nice job with the bless your heart flourish, it really makes your dumb comment so much more authoritative.

Just so you know, I was the poster who forgot to mention Cornell and not the idiot who sent the “google” response.

You lost me. So who are you calling painfully insecure, and insecure about what? I’m the Cornell alum pp.

One of the more viral emails was inviting the mistress over to his house, telling her to retrieve a pizza order two blocks from the president's official on-campus mansion. So, I'm guessing he and the wife are actually separated? Another email said he was lonely. Again, seeming to suggest the wife was living elsewhere.

Insulting. Cottage Inn isn't even that good anymore.

Wrong direction. I heard he was partial to Pizza House.

If you're going to order from Pizza House, you should just get a chipati.

Yeah, the orders were from Pizza House. But no chipati, and no pizza. Just calzones and something called a Michigan Cherry Salad. Weird.

If you’re from Michigan, it’s not weird.

Oh, the memories of chipatis after a night of drinking at Rick's!

Well, he’s not from Michigan as others have emphasized. Do you prefer the chipatis at Pizza Bob’s?

spent time but never lived in Ann Arbor - these salads are often served in resort towns along Lake Michigan. There are cherry orchards in the SW part of the state as well as in greater Grand Traverse area. A PP described them in detail and how they are often served with grilled salmon. Schlissel lived there long enough to be familiar with them.

Read the e-mails. In one of them he complements the woman for being smart based on a Harvard article he read. The article, about "Why breathing is effective at reducing stress", is attached. Author's name was redacted.

Google the name of the article to see the names of the authors. Then Google the authors' names...see which one of the authors is a grad student at U-M

Mystery solved?

Heck, maybe he has multiple affairs going on.

And yet, the university successfully conducted a $5 billion campaign under his leadership.

Maybe that was the Regents. Or maybe he got along with Stephen Ross.

My DC, who is a recent alum so Schlissel was the pres. during his whole time, is happy he's gone. He was not well liked by students.

PP was responding to a supposed account of how big donors perceived him. Primary responsibility of the UofM president is fundraising, and Victors for Michigan was a huge success. I don’t believe that regents, who are state elected officials, do any fundraising at all though they do attend fundraising events. Your son’s account may be accurate, but not responsive to the point about what big donors thought of him. Many university presidents are disliked by the students, it’s a not uncommon phenomenon.
