Homeless tents creeping into the nice/residential part of DC

Nadeau's emergency legislation that would have made DC's homeless problem exponentially worse fails miserably, as it should have:

Curious how long that lasts. Probably not that long. No access to water or sanitation. Can’t imagine where he defecates.

He's been there over a month.

It is not sanitary or safe for them or for others.

There are homeless shelters and support systems available and if there aren't enough, then we should be volunteering, fighting, and voting for more.

If the homeless don't like a shelter because there are rules against drug use, um, too bad. That doesn't mean you get to live in a tent in the middle of a sidewalk.

We have zoning laws for a reason. Camping in the city is not allowed for anyone.

Mental health issues also don't mean you get to camp on a sidewalk.

Virtue signaling.

Does anyone know who voted how? I have been trying to find it but visited a few sites that didn't say.

Homeless tents have become an issue because of Bowser. Literally on her watch.

I don’t like Bowser but I don’t think she’s responsible for the drug epidemics and the closure of asylums in the 80s. This is a federal problem that cities are bearing the brunt of. The best thing to do is spend money on long term treatment and involuntary commitment. Preferably federal money. But in the short term I don’t want tent cities on my city streets.

i'm hearing a lot of voices on social media that don't seem to understand that these people ARE offered shelter and/or housing and solutions but they reject them in favor of not living under restrictions. In particular, the people who were living on 17th St in Dupont were active drug users who were not ready to get clean. I don't know what kind of treatment options DC has to offer, but EVERYONE was trying to get them housed and they preferred setting up their camp and getting vemo'ed money from passersby and crapping in the alley by the elementary school. People in DC DO NOT have to be on the streets and everyone is acting like these are healthy people who couldn't make rent and now they are destroying their tents. That is not the correct narrative. The tents I've witnessed are a public health threat.

I'm hearing a lot of opinions about housing / shelter from people who have only read news articles about them.

At this point I only care about the perspectives from people who have been in those places/programs. It paints a very different picture.

He's been there over a month.

Surprised he’s still there. I just wonder what’s the point. Do the churches help him?

She’s not responsible for allowing the proliferation of tents all over the city? Say what again? She literally has all of the power to stop this on her own, tomorrow, within the scope of both of her expansive police and public health powers.

Well, part of the problem is their competence to evaluate situations and where they place their priorities. The picture everyone paints is necessarily colored by his or her perspective and limitations. I am interested in hearing from everyone affected by the issue, which is the entire community.

Fair. She should've done what she's doing now a long time ago? If that's what you're saying, I agree.

You think the strung out morons and alcoholics living in tents have a coherent stance? They live their position everyday by existing on the street so that they can have unrestricted use of drugs and alcohol.

I know them well.
