Homeless tents creeping into the nice/residential part of DC

Glamorizing homelessness or low income housing as a conscious choice creates more problems as majority has behavioral or other mental health issues, drug issues, abuse issues and attract criminal elements to use them for their interests.

Homeless do make a choice. The reason many are living in tent encampments rather than in shelters (on which the DC government has spent many millions) is so they can shoot uo and take drugs. The shelters won’t let them do that. The DC government and the Park Police need to break up the drug-infested tent encampments already!

Then what? They'd still be homeless, still using drugs. There needs to be a solution, not just clearing them out.

Preferably somewhere they cant leave to get drugs or panhandle. I.e. mental health institutions

There are miles and miles of open land where they can camp. Why does it have to be DC? Particularly when many of the homeless aren't originally even from DC.

They want to be close to free food, free giveaways,
Panhandling, and drugs.

I have a mentally ill family member who has been institutionalized many times. We had to fight like hell to get her into the hospital. It shouldn't be that way.

Our mental health care system needs an overhaul.

The on ramp for long term mental health care should be MUCH easier to access. The problems we see with homelessness are largely a result of poor services for mentally ill people.

I agree. But I think they need some minimal place to live instead of being institutionalized.
