Oh and this was in FL.

I’m sorry for the loss.

However, I had a cousin die in a tragic fire ata department store. That’s like saying I should never go to that department store again.

Tragic fires at department stores are not contagious.

And, continuing with your example, if fires at department stores were endemic (for example, due to poor compliance with safety regulations), yes, then it would behoove you to avoid department stores.

Was your friend’s dad masked?

OP, you will get a disproportionate amount of people on this site who will say no. If you are careful and the funeral is important, you can go safely.

I am in FL. You are taking a large risk coming to FL. Not only are people dying at alarming rates (underreported) but there is a sense here that COVID is not real. Taking any precautions is not the norm.

Go for a month. That way you can attend the funerals of the other attendees too. I am sure they are relatives?

No. That’s not it at all. This has nothing to do with being contagious.

The PP provided an example of a rare case, where someone was vaccinated, caught breakthrough Covid an died. Yes, that’s tragic. But incredibly unlikely. I believe the vaccine works, and that it prevents deaths from Covid. Don’t you? It is highly, highly unlikely that an otherwise healthy person dies from Covid after getting the shot.

The point is that is is highly unlikely that the OP will have any issues attending a funeral in Florida if she is vaccinated and masked. Just as it is highly unlikely that any of us dies in a department store fire. Can it happen? Yes. But we reasonably evaluate the risk and make decisions based on that.

You are choosing to make all your decisions based on an unreasonable sense of fear. That’s fine. And OP can do the same, if she wants. But some of understand that your decision might be an overreaction.

This. And while you’re in FL send baked goods to hospital workers. It’s a thing. And whatever you do, don’t talk about the virus. The devil has inhabited peoples minds to believe the virus is real and our government is trying poison us with a vaccine. The vaccine has a chip in it to monitor you. This is also a thing in FL.

I am also in FL. The people dying at alarming rates are the unvaccinated. I see most people taking reasonable precautions where I am. I see most people masked in stores, if you choose to dine indoors, the employees are masked. I don't wear masks outdoors. I am vaccinated. If you are vaccinated and choose to wear a mask- what more do you want or need? Unless you want to stay in your house for the next 3 years.

FL is 67% at least 1 dose and 56% fully vaxxed.
My county in south florida is 67% fully vaccinated.

MD is 62% fully vax, VA is 58%, DC is 59%.
Enough with the broad brush sweeping generalizations of Fl.

We don't want you down there. Stay home.

Thank you! Exactly this.

No. My mother died last Wednesday in South Florida and my father told us (brother and myself) not to come. There was a zoom memorial service, and then she was flown to NY for the cemetery. My dad didn't leave Florida to fly to NY (local relatives met at the cemetery).

OMG thank you. DC is barely more vaxxed than FL. Reality: unless you're in a rural area of FL (you won't be) you're probably not going to run across the crazy anti-vaxxers that the media is constantly yelling about.

That's so sad. Have you considered therapy to deal with your fears?

There have been a growing number of funerals/memorial services online. In the case above, the poster stated her father told her and her brother not to come. Not sure how that translates into her fear.

There are no accurate numbers out of FL. I don’t care what your source is. I am making a broad sweeping brush about FL because the reality is not being reported.

The hospitals are at capacity. No elective procedures are being done and there is a lot of covid collateral damage because health care cannot be accessed.

The worst area is NE FL.
