One day in LA (with a grumpy preteen)

My kids loved the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Spent hours searching for those they knew and learned a bit about those they didn't.

Were 10 & 12 at the time.

The walk of fame is boring AF for most kids. And certain areas along the walk are shady/gross. Santa Monica pier is ok for 30 minutes and maybe some ice cream. A lot of homeless in that area. I would do WB as other suggested.

Does he like cars? The Peterson auto museum is really cool.

22:02 here - if you do this my bookending with fou fou coffee shop / cupcake / lunch breakfast spot is still recommended. I'm just suggesting be intentional about snacks and go somewhere that feels special to bolster the destination.

OP here: I am puzzled by the term fou fou! But I like the Getty idea and of course we bookend everything with food

I meant go somewhere trendy.

Must have been years ago. Now it’s nasty homeless and scary drug addicts. I was driving by the other day and some fully nude person was walking around and another person tripping out of their mind, scratching their face off and asking bystanders for help.

Stay away .

I was thinking about that and usually that’s what I do, but I am trying to get excited about LA and somehow I can’t (we are there for a layover).
I am thinking of taking the TMZ bus tour to see most landmarks and maybe spot a celeb or two, but without my kid.
So far the Warner bros tour sounds best for both of us though

He isn’t an enthusiast and I am not one either... I would go with a friend but not alone or with him, but thanks

Thank you! I am afraid he will ruin any trendy experience. I might go alone though.
Maybe WB with him in the morning and The Getty on my own later, we will see. Thanks!

Thank you, I have been to a Din Tai Fung at a other location and while it was nice, it was also nothing special for me

We did the WB tour and I agree, it was awesome for all.

We also loved Madame Toussauds wax museum. So much more fun than we expected. Then went to In and Out burger nearby.

The other great day was the original Hollywood Farmers Market and the La Brea Tar Pits, and the Petersen Automotive Museum. All were amazing. You don’t even have to be really into cars to like the Petersen.

Great, thank you! Will research LBTP

La brea tar pits will probably be boring for that age 😬
Definitely Santa Monica pier and maybe rent beach bikes. That’s fun for all ages.

I should add: if you can do the WB tour, I would do that. No question, that would be the neatest thing. Getty Villa- lovely, but I can’t imagine a kid would enjoy it over a studio tour. Have fun!

Yummy Mexican food that doesn't exist in DC.

Conveyor-belt sushi places.

My kid loved both.
