Saddam Hussein was an awful dictator, but the dirty little truth is that dictators are often very stabilizing to a country. As soon as the US pulls out, it is going to be hell. It is already hell.
Also, don't fool yourself into thinking that we invaded Iraq to eliminate a monster. If you want to talk about people this world could do without, look at Kim Jung Il. Robert Mugabe. Umar Bashir. Or China, for that matter, if you want to focus on human rights abuses. Bush didn't invade Iraq to make the world a better place. |
You obviously have no clue what you are saying about the rights of women during the Saddam era. Iraqi women were the most educated women in the middle east. They were allowed to own their own property, and they particiated in the politis of the country. Morever, they were not required to cover-up when appearing in public. Those are just some of the rights the girls and women have lost as a result of the U.S. invasion. As for changing the lives of millions, I guess if China invaded the Western part of the U.S, occupied the territory, rounded up members of the Republican party (Baths) and detained them indefinitely, and then setup a puppet government, I agree mllions of lives would be forever changed. |
Agreed with the other pp. You are decidedly wrong about women in Iraq. And that whole "putting their life on the line for all you limosine [sic] liberals" is trite. And I'm betting you never served yourself, so who are you to put words in the mouths of our nation's heroes? |
These women are living in a war situation. What direction they are getting is from radical religious clerics. Their babies are dying from violence and poverty. Their lives have NOT been changed for the better. |
