How did your high schooler make new friends?

Sports and band.

For my kids;
Non-academic classes such as art, orchestra/band, theater, etc where there is more time to talk.

Clubs or other after school activities.

People who they saw in every or almost every class they became friendlier with (if not truly friends) because of more opportunities to get to know each other and interact.

My DS is a month into 9th grade and hasn't really made any new friends yet. He said he's talked to a few people here and there, but his best friends are still his best buddies from MS. He's really outgoing once he gets to know people, but he's pretty shy at first. He's going to join band in the spring, and I'm hoping for lots of friendships to develop there.
