Sounds like crossfit focuses on intensity.
Bodypumpers are encouraged to go at their own pace and reps are highlighted over weight.

CrossFit is heavier weight, more intense, more “work to muscle failure” mentality. BodyPump you really aren’t using that much weight and it is choreographed to allow breaks for one muscle group while working another.

Not familiar with BodyPump. But as to your question, CrossFit focuses on both. You continually work up to higher weight but you do that through greater repetition. So while I can deadlift like 175 or so on a one to three rep max test, during a workout I will lift say 140 during a workout for maybe a total of 50-60 times during a 20 minute period. I keep working on increasing the numbers and then eventually can add 5 pounds to my bar but will end up dropping reps until I can work back up to the 50-60.

I used to do BodyPump years ago and do CrossFit now. The movements you do are pretty different. BodyPump is also very similar from class to class. There is always the same number of segments focused on the same body parts. CrossFit is more varied.

Would CrossFit be a good workout? Or should I get a personal trainer a couple times a week for 30 minutes each?

The latter is more expensive. I don’t do much other than a lot of walking right now, roughly 5-7 miles a day.

I would hire a trainer. You need to learn correct form before you jump into something like CrossFit, or you can really injure yourself. Also, CrossFit to me feels cult-ish, and you can spot a CrossFit fanatic from a mile away.

If your main type of exercise now is walking, you should start with a personal trainer to teach you how to properly build muscle. Then work out on your own. Then possibly try cross fit.
