Vienna vs McLean

Neighbors are not generally chatty.

Seriously. You surely have read enough about these two areas.

Not everyone is obsessed with status and marginally better GS ratings/US News rankings. Some people just want to walk to Taco Bamba and enjoy ViVa Vienna in peace.

Vienna has sidewalks, real walkability (not taking your life in your hands), and actual places that you and your family would care to walk to. Done.

Vienna has less drama, I think. I was able to walk to Wolf Trap to see Chicago, Hall & Oates and Huey Lewis in concert.

I only want to live in Tysons. It is literally the only part of the entire DC area where I have enjoyed living. I've lived on the McLean side of Tysons and the Vienna side and see no difference.

They are both nice.

This thread is yet another re-hash of many previous threads. If new OP then please use search to find the many previous threads. Thanks !

Why is that a bad thing? Make you own friends!

We didn't look at McLean when we moved because Vienna was a better commute compromise between partners, so I can't partake of the McLean bashing, but Vienna's been good for us, for the most part. We have had some really great neighbors, and the ES school was been great for one kid but not for the other (now in MS and both well-served. Pre-COVID, we did walk into town, to the library, get food, etc. and also bike the W&OD trail a lot. I think the food was better in Falls Church (where we moved from), but Vienna's food scene has gotten better. I second Taco Bamba, though they need to bring the Eden Center taco back to the menu.

Having a community where your house is located is a wonderful thing, especially for kids. Not having that is a drawback compared to places that do. Also, if you make friends with neighbors, they are still "your own friends."

I think it also depends where in Mclean vs where in Vienna. An older home in 22101 near Southridge is going to feel different than say, Evermay or Franklin park. Same with Vienna, the parts that are actually Dunn Loring and smaller/older homes are different than the parts closer to Oakton.

North Arlington is better than either one.

/end thread.

Love how you have to specify “North” Arlington. Racist

Not at all. It’s not as nice as either.

OP it’s more neighborhood dependent than the town. There’s variety in terms of types of people/income levels even within these 2 places. Find a house/neighborhood you like and go from there.

Mclean sucks, not worth it. Its funny how they think they are better than the rest of NOVA

Not as funny as the haters with an obvious inferiority complex.
