Seventh Grade Boy and Showers

That is nasty.

Take away privileges, OP. Basic hygiene is non negotiable.

DP- whats's your point? MY DD is in 7th grade and will turn 13 on November 15th. Should we have forced her to kindergarten at 5 so she would not be 18 until Thanksgiving of her freshman year in college?

It will be worse when the school sends a note home about hygiene.

+1

My kids all have Nov and Dec birthdays. They have all turned/will turn 13 in 7th grade. So will almost all of their friends. 🤷‍♀️

While I don't think he necessarily needs to shower daily (that's a very American thing), he probably does need to shower more often than once a week, and certainly if he's active, working up a sweat, etc.

If my teen boys don't shower every day, they stink - especially their heads. Yet, it's always a battle despite DD and I telling them they stink and need to shower. They just don't care. But, as I tell them, they don't need to care, they just need to do it. If they don't shower before they go to bed, I get them up half an hour early and make them do it before school and then wash their sheets when they come home from school.

Once a week is gross for anyone, but especially at this age.

This was never a battle I had to fight - my DS always wanted a shower every night. He never did sports and I have no idea if he would have been stinky if he skipped some showers. I never got a chance to find out! (He does have straight, fine hair that looks greasy if not washed daily so I suspect that's one reason he was motivated to shower daily through middle and high school).

13 yo boys STINK. He needs a shower and deodorant or antiperspirant daily.

After puberty, he can think about whether he wants to shower daily or not.

GROSS! You most definitely need to shower after swimming in a pool with all the chemicals, sunscreen, etc. For the life of me I never understood why people equate swimming in a pool with bathing.

I don't know, with all the chlorine (have you seen your kids' eyes after swimming in a public pool?), it probably does a better job than soap.

He's in 7th grade. He'll discover he likes girls and then he'll care about hygiene

By then the girls know him as the stinky boy.

Exactly, he may not be interested in girls (or boys) for a while and then his reputation is the smelly kid.

And dries out their skin and hair, not to mention the layer of sun screen. Get that stuff off of them when they're done

+1 Being 11 in 7th grade is gonna be awkward as hell. Why make those years harder than they need be????
