No they only have to take people who apply in the original lottery. And it's not all Title I schools. Just this list. Early Action Pre-Kindergarten (PK) guarantees access to all in-boundary families in preschool (PK3) and prekindergarten (PK4) at select DCPS schools. To secure an Early Action PK seat, in-boundary families must submit a My School DC lottery application online to their DCPS in-boundary school by the PK3-8 deadline. Eligible families who submit a My School DC application by the deadline are guaranteed an Early Action PK match if they are not matched to any other higher-ranked school. If a student is matched at their Early Action PK school, they will not be waitlisted at any school they ranked lower. ocate your in-boundary school here. Participating DCPS schools in school year 2021-22 are: Aiton Elementary School Browne Education Campus Bunker Hill Elementary School Burroughs Elementary School Drew Elementary School King Elementary School Langley Elementary School Miner Elementary School Moten Elementary School Noyes Elementary School Stanton Elementary School Takoma Elementary School Thomson Elementary School Truesdell Elementary School Turner Elementary School Wheatley Education Campus |
| OP, DO NOT try to stick it out. Flee now. |

| What's your IB, OP? |
Not all of these are really options for pre-K. I'm not familiar with all, but I know Bruce Monroe and Marie Reed waitlist in-bound pre-K students. |
Waitlists move fast this time of year. |
No, that's not correct. Some schools are Early Action which guarantees a seat IB but there are ways you have to list it in the lottery application. Not every Title 1 does this. |

there's no limit to the number of post lottery applications you can make. you can literally list every school that offers PK. Obviously only list the ones you'd actually be willing to drive to, and realize that for some of them you'll be number 435 or something on the list, but there is no harm or cost to applying.
Also check into the community based options--private preschools that DC pays for. You can see a list on the MSDC website but each school runs their own wait list so you need to call them. |
For PK3 I'm almost positive you could get a spot at Bunker Hill, Burroughs, Noyes, Bethune, or Friendship (I don't know the others as well). Mundo and the other Montessoris more of a stretch but not impossible in this weird year. |
It doesn't hurt to list them, but just don't want OP to get her hopes up for schools that still have dozens of IB students waiting. |
Thanks, I was mistaken. I also didn't realize you had to apply by the deadline for the Early Action guarantee. |
It looks like it'll be easy pickings for K and 1st graders, which could pull in a preschooler. |
| OP here. Our IB is Bunker Hill. That was 11 and SS was 10 for us, so I'm not sure the process to get in there now, since i'm not waitlisted there anymore. Lee is on my list, i'm waitlist number 110 (and that is one of the lowest waitlist numbers we got). |
You can go back into your MyschoolDC account and follow the directions here. https://www.myschooldc.org/postlotto Adding a school will show you where you are on the list. At Bunker Hill you will get IB preference so probably be pretty high. I would also check out Friendship schools and Behune. |
