Yes, the system is to recruit players away that were developed at other clubs and lean on those recruited players to go to college to continue this cycle of putting players into college. The system works. |
Literally every club recruits in the older age group. Point to a single club that has ONLY homegrown players. |

You’re new to this. You don’t know the history. It’s okay. Don’t worry. |
Provide the history then. |
It’s been told enough on this forum. FCV and McLean were the only ecnl teams in area for a long time and would get all of the best players without developing anyone. When the DA came along, it everything. |
When there are only two top teams in the area of course the top players are going to gravitate to those clubs. This isn't controversial. |
let's take it back to: SYC doesn't care about its girls |
Change clubs. |
Id say most of the clubs in the area get kids from youth programs of smaller clubs every year. MD has the same thing with Bethesda, Pipeline and MD United being the strongest of promising D1 scholarships and elite cocaching... even if neither happens |
McLean's history goes back before FCV and ECNL existed. It goes back decades. Reston, for a period, was the precursor (Reston was basically a feeder club for UNC and began pilfering from clubs like BRYC and others), and then McLean took the reins pilfering from others to create super-teams. They are good at promoting and people in this area are all about keeping up with the Jones's academically and of course that has spilled into sports, and for girls that sport is primarily soccer. McLean just has kept it up so long--they, along with Bethesda, are probably the best at it regards longevity. Historiy-wise, this has been happening since the mid-80s. McLean probably has been doing this consistently since late-80s/early-90s. |
And why do we care? |
someone wanted a history lesson |
I menat about recruiting? Why do we care? |
Reston used to bring in entire teams. Not pilfer players. They would pilfer an entire team by giving them free uniforms, balls, training kit, etc. |
