Pasta us the star of the dish, not the sauce. Best pasta to buy?

OP asks for the best store-bought pasta, and is criticized for not making pasta, probably should have her own ancient grain wheat field and chickens for eggs too? And a pure mountain water creek for water and her own supply of fresh salt that she scoops out of the sea herself?

Is there really that much of a difference between store-bought dried pasta?

I don't know. I do know that one potluck we had one mom went on and on about how she made authentic chicken noodle soup, and she made her own noodles! They were inedible and raw and gross. But, I suppose we were not in Italy!

Pasta doesn't taste like anything on its own. What's the point without sauce?

Does too. Maybe you are so used to chips and overly seasoned things that you don't know.

Ina Garten specifies DeCecco in a lot of her recipes.

OP here. Thanks! Where do you get these two? Colavita or Delallo?

Harris teeter has colavita. Delallo you can get online, but it’s at my parent’s local grocery store in Italian heavy NJ.

You can get fresh noodles at WF instead of making your own

Setaro is my favorite.

De Cecco is a good brand readily available in grocery stores.

OP, if you want to browse through a larger selection of fresh and dried pasta, I suggest going to A. Litteri near Union Market. Heaven for pasta and Italian food lovers!

She's paid to do so.

It's extremely bland. Good bread has more flavor than good pasta. I literally only eat pasta as a vehicle for sauce. But enjoy your bowl of plain white flour if it suits you.

She may have an endorsement deal.

La Molisana is the best and DeCecco is a close second

This.

The flavor only goes so far unless you are infusing it. Like making the pasta with herbs and spices.
