+1 I consider myself the same and am a taxpayer in Alexandria. I send my kids to private in part bc of this disaster of a super |
+1, This kind of idiocy isn't the main reason we're homeschooling but it's a factor. |
Oops he did it again, in this Op-Ed. Start at paragraph 7:
“This is a great opportunity to reimagine education. Back to school does not mean back to how things were before the dual pandemics of Covid-19 and systemic racism.” https://alextimes.com/2021/08/filling-in-the-blanks-with-dr-gregory-hutchings-ed-d-a-leap-forward-for-alexandria-city-public-schools/?fbclid=IwAR1cu5q-gYTvjyBE54_ZxYOqaXv875APhFtpogXxQnTWKqBVodaL9DLAWS0 |
The bigger issue is Hutchings claiming that systemic racism contributed to ACPS’s decision to keep physically closed, not the dual pandemic language per se. |
Just wanted to add that Hutchings' attitude to the Covid pandemic can be summed up in his response to a board request to speed up the timeframe (from September 20 to August 30) to require staff to report vaccination status or submit to weekly testing. He exclaimed that such a move would be "extreme," "unreasonable," and a "knew-jerk reaction," to the concern among the community. He noted that the masks in schools, cleaning, symptom checklist and temperature checks were keeping students safe. By now, a lot of employers, private, federal, state and local are requiring that employees report vaccination status. It is not that hard. |
Could you please provide a link for the book, or a title? |
So, I came across this, and perhaps you are talking about Dr. Reed's book: https://alexlibraryva.org/event/4475332 I can't find anything suggesting that Dr. Hutchings has a book coming out, but again, to the person who posted about it, please send link and info about it. |
I mean nobody in the country has made a statement like this. Is he just trying to raise his national profile because he knows it'll get air time and requests to discuss? |
Or is he just an idiot? |
Porque no los dos? |
Je ne sais pas. |
+1 We decided to homeschool bc virtual learing revealed how thin the curriculum is and how little they seemed to care about my neurodivergent kid. But I find him particularly without a clue about how to handle all of this. |
The past year definitely revealed a lot of problems in ACPS. With the curriculum and with the administration. |
More Hutchings dual pandemic stuff but no claim here that systemic racism kept schools closed- https://www.edweek.org/leadership/opinion-superintendent-pandemic-lesson-4-confront-the-pandemic-within-the-pandemic/2021/07
