In New England you might want to consider these schools with a business focus:
Bryant in RI (accepts about 70% of applicants) Bentley in MA (might be a stretch with a 3.0, but Bentley is less selective than Babson) |
Explain why it makes me an ass to (1) make the clearly correct point that grades count more than test scores for most colleges and (2) that Fairfield is a nice school. |
| What is he looking for? Big state school or small LAC? |
| If looking for big state schools - Arizona State or Rutgers |
PP here. I apologize that I took your comment the wrong way. |
| Consider Towson, UMBC, GMU, JMU (if you’re instate for one of those) |
|
In VA: Definitely the University of Lynchburg.
University of Tampa might also be a good fit. |
Start with Towson and transfer to UMD if he is not accepted to UMD as a freshman. |
If you want to do the transfer route it’s better to start at community college. I know that seems counterintuitive but guaranteed transfer is for college of arts and sciences and for cc students. |
| Does UMD offer automatic transfer from cc into UMD business? |

OP you asked for business programs .
I’d have your kid apply to possibly Pitt, NC State, College of Charleston, Towson, Univ SC, Salisbury, Elon, Univ of Delaware, University West Virginia, Michigan State. While some of these might appear as reaches I’d do them. The key to look for at any college applying to is whether your DC can get accepted directly to the business program if they do not then matriculation at college might be hard. Why make it hard? Hence being accept as a freshman is key. I will be flamed at my list and the suggestion DC might not have a 3.0 gpa while in college but reality tells us most college students gpas correlate with HS within .5 so….. OP my list is just examples Pitt being a reach. Theses are just starting points take my list find comparable schools. Skip schools like JMU that have limited enrollment programs to the business school. |
| ^^ this is really good advice. Never underestimate the power of being full pay to an undergrad business school program. |
Thanks - very helpful. Yes, we plan to cast a wide net and hopefully have some options. |
| Do any LAC have business programs? |
