Mother Earth especially hates people who have more cars than drivers. Enjoy Earth Day! |
That doesn’t necessarily mean they drive more miles. DH and I put way fewer miles on our two cars combined than my BIL puts on just his car alone. |
| We have 4 cars and 2 drivers. 3 of them are mine. But will sell one so that I can find a replacement. Even at my peak driving, don’t think I put more than 8-10k total miles across the cars. I work from home now for the long term so don’t really drive much. |
Define need. If four drivers are working out of the home not near their employment, there is a need. Lots of other reasons to. We have 3 cars for two drivers. Never got rid of a really old one that runs great. We maybe drive 8K max a year on all the cars with WAH. Owning isn't as much the issue as driving and using a car service is worse as they have to drive to come get you and then drive to where they need to be next. |
Owning means that you have extra tons of metal that you don't actually need because you have more people than cars. |
OP here we shared rides with others we drove too it just wasn't 6 days a week. We also live "on the way" like literally people passed by our place to get to the school or shopping town center area. thanks to those who brought up the lessened carbon footprint. And a pp who brought up kids gladly picking up a friend/ teammate as needed. |
Yes, the OP imposed some costs on others who drove his kids around. But his point seems to highlight that they weren't big costs, and that if people in the USA weren't so bad about sharing, we wouldn't need to have 1 car per driver (or more than 1 car per driver in some cases) |
| Congratulations, the nobel prize committee just called and informed me that you are in the running for a prize this year. Excellent work OP |
Aren’t you a ball of joy? Definitely looking for a new toy. And definitely won’t be fuel efficient. |
You are one of those parents. Entitled. Yup. I get the requests all the time... well, you are on my way. Humm, no, not really and no I'm not driving your kid except if you pay me or you recropicate. |
So you are partly relying on favors from others? I am fine with that (we are a one car family too and occasionally rely on friends driving our kids) but I don't pat myself off the back too much since we do sometimes rely on favors from others in order to avoid getting a second car. |

3 cars, 5 drivers.
The only reason we have the 3rd car is because my mom is unable to drive now so she gave us her car. |
