I gained weight counting calories….WTF?!

There's actually evidence that says that when you first start restricting calories, you gain weight, then you lose weight, so that could be the case. Don't bump down lower than 1600 since you're BFing, it's already pretty low. Please don't listen to just random people online, if you need help, contact a good dietitian.

I was weighing myself multiple times because if I weigh myself immediately after waking I have two breasts full of milk. When DS wakes up and nurses I’m generally down a pound or more. After I have coffee and go to the bathroom I’m down a little more. I’ll generally pump the side he didn’t nurse on when he woke up and weigh myself again and figure that’s rhe “truest” weight. It’s been interesting to see how much it fluctuates based on when he last nursed. I’m not manic about it just curious really.

This does sound pretty crazy, including pumping extra milk out when you have a 1 yr old who nurses at the breast.

Put the baby in the stroller and go for some walks. You're not going to lose weight unless you start moving - doesn't have to be intense, walking works too.

Hi sorry- when was the last time you breastfed? I’m pumping because my boobs are full and sore after he sleeps through the night. He goes to sleep around 7:30 and will wake around 7. So I’ve got about 12 hours worth of milk and frankly- my boobs hurt! So he’ll nurse on one side when he wakes up and I’ll pump the other. He usually drinks that later in the day in a sippy cup. He’s 12 months and I expect to nurse for another month or two and this system has been working well for us. I don’t think there is anything “crazy” about it?

Because he is meant to wean slowly and if you would stop pumping, you would stop over producing and you wouldn’t be sore after a couple days of only making what he wants.

That’s helpful- thank you! It’s not a lot (4ish ounces most days) and I don’t need to every day so I think it’s pretty naturally winding down.

I appreciate all the help on this thread! I will keep counting, up the exercise and give it some more time. Thanks all!

Two days ago I peed almost a liter! I stepped on the scale and had to go and then wondered, hm, and stepped again, two lbs lighter!
Don't take 4 lbs so seriously op!

Absolutely not

People always undercount calories. Unless you’re measuring and weighing your food, you could be eating more than you think.

I had my last DD at your age, OP, and I have always obsessively managed my weight (5'6, 46yo, 119 lbs). But I would not try to lose any weight while nursing. You have the rest of your life to reach your fitness goals but only this precious time with your baby/toddler.

1600 doesn't sound like much of a deficit for your height and weight. By 12 months, your body has acclimated to nursing so you can cut more calories if you truly want to lose. If your supply drops, take the necessary action to boost it back up if you plan to continue nursing.

I'd step away from the scale and just focus on your intake and how your clothes are fitting. And get some exercise
