| Ultimately, the Supreme Court will strike this new admissions system down. Might be five years from now, though. |
| Does 2e qualify for experience factor |
When you say "time will tell," you're missing the point. Of course Asian families are now incentivized to hide their kids' ethnicity, say they need FARMS, and send their kids to a school like Whitman or Glasgow. FCPS is telling families they should be ashamed of having an Asian kid at Carson from a family that doesn't depend on public assistance. |
| Can't you parents just be satisfied with what you have? Why all the angling and scheming? This is nonsense. You have lost sight of the big picture. |
Prep centers will become more popular. |
I think I am now in the camp of shutting down TJ. It is just too divisive now. |
No. |
It's just a symptom of how the clowns on the School Board have made everything divisive and inefficient. While I understand your reaction, the better response is to replace the board, not eliminate the school. |
As a TJ alumna, I wonder this myself. I had a great experience at TJ and it definitely helped me in some ways, but my friends who didn't get in also have had good life experiences, learned plenty, and done well. |
that means striking down UT admissions (which uses the same system) which would mean reversing itself 8 years after a decision. Good luck with that |
then the NAACP sues (they were ready to if a change wasn't made) and you go through this all over again. Just closing the school is the easiest solution |
No, this one is different. Either the Harvard case or this one — with what seems to be the stunning decrease in Asian acceptances — will anger at least 5 Justices. |
Close the school?? After a much awaited and awesome increase in URM admissions? The optics would be horrible — something straight out if the 1950s deep south. |
| The debt of white racism in nova is being paid here by Asian Americans, who had absolutely nothing to do with it. That’s unacceptable. |
|
Have they ever defined what "experience" means?
I have a first grader starting in FCPS this fall, and we've checked ESL and "multiracial" on her paperwork just because we could. Our older child was listed as white and a native English speaker simply because we didn't think it'd matter. |
