What do kids do during the long winter break?

Mostly just hang out with family & friends, unless they are needing money. They can pick up retail jobs usually, or some can pick up shifts at previous summer jobs. I have heard of short volunteer or travel, but that is not the norm. It is a lot shorter than it seems, and it is nice that they get actual breaks.

I wonder how many schools will continue the trend of starting early so first semester can end at Thanksgiving? That'd be a 6 week break.

I always worked from the first day to the last. Still had some downtime during the actual holidays and made money for tuition. I went back to my summer office job to help out each winter.

I used to spend a few days getting settled at home and quiet family time, then a week or so doing my favorite things that I had missed and seeing friends, then our family would go away skiing for a week to 10 days, and then a few days of goodbyes. The days pass quickly!
