Reliable, Used Car Help Needed

I can't say enough positive things about Carmax. We had so much runaround and hidden fees with dealers. Not worth it. So shady. The published price is not the final price.

Carmax was simple and straightforward and offered us exceptional buy back on our trade in.

Friends also had a good experience with Carvana.

Good luck to you. Don't waste your time with shady dealers.

You pay for that convenience, though. Those Carmax links were for 2009s, when OP can probably find one for several years newer if she emails a few dealers.

You can get a Mazda 3 with that kid of money. Please go and drive the car. It is zippy and fast.
I bought used Mazda3, drove it for 11 years and sold it to my friend wh0 is very happy with the car. Meanwhile, I miss the car and want to buy it back.
My new Honda that sucks to drive, got a recall for a reason. It just doesn't move at all; starts moving 2 seconds after pressing the gas pedal.

+1 almost anything from a dealer on cars.com or autotrader.com is going to be a better deal than Carmax. We are also in the market for something about 10 grand and I have been looking.

I put my 2011 Nissan Murano LE with 64k miles on it for 14k.
It had new brakes, and all services done. Excellent condition.
I got about 8 offer from dealers in a day. I sold it for 14.5k to a Nissan dealer who is probably going to sell it for 17 or 18k?

Pre-COVID kbb had the car at 12k private sale. Crazy.

I know you folks are all smart and great negotiators. Some of us have wasted enough hours and been ripped off by enough car dealers to have taken a vow never to go into a dealer again. I know it is hard to imagine how much we hate car salesman and the asymmetry of the car buying process.

If you want a measure of our distaste, it is illustrated by the premium that we are willing to pay Carmax to get a fast, transparent buying process that is merely OK in terms of money.

If you get a skeezy car dealer, just leave. I've found plenty of salespeople who are mellow and easy to work with.

I read that some used cars are being sold at the same price as a new car, almost same model. Crazy.

American cars depreciate more so if a tight budget I go for that.

It may surprise DCUM folks but Buick is higher rated on reliability than Toyota, Honda, Lexus. It also deprecates more.

My brothers Buick he sold at 180k miles running perfect to his Gardner who still drives it. Not sexy but crazy reliable and you get a newer one with less miles than a Toyota or Honda

This is a great recommendation. Used Hondas and Toyotas have always been at a premium because of their rep for reliability. Mazdas are just as good now and the 3 is forever a bargain.

Honda’s and Toyota’s cost more than American and even Korean brands.
Why so?

Because these vehicles are very reliable and everyone knows it.
Trust me, these brands have been around a long time and have a proven track record for longevity.

When America was producing cars….
The Japanese were also producing vehicles.
Yet their vehicles sold better by leaps and bounds.
