Dog barking - how much is too much

But then we have a low iron Capitol Hill style fence which means that passers-by might be especially scared by a pit mix barking at them. And it also means that it would be easy for someone to steal my dog. So consider my circumstances when I say this - but I think one ought to check on one's dog if they're out in the yard and barking, so your neighbors know you're paying attention. I want my neighbors to know that I am there and in control of my dog. My dog gets most of her exercise from two walks a day and we only go out into the yard for a quick potty break.

On another note, you could ask your neighbors how they feel about your dog barking. They might not care.

Yes we check on her when she starts barking. She likes to stay in cool places. When it's hot outside she likes to stay inside and lie on tile flooring. She goes out to release herself or to get some fresh air whenever she likes, through her little dog door. She fits into our lifestyle very well, except for the random barking. We'll try to correct it over time. Thank you for your input.

Now imagine how annoying the random barking is throughout the day for your neighbors. I can assure you, it does not fit into anyone else’s lifestyle well at all. Don’t “try” to correct it “over time.” Nip it in the bud. Now.
