Do you think your life is shaped by the narrative makers? |

In the video it's clear to observe the purposefulness of the suspects' stride -- and the careful way one of them readies 'something' in his jacket pocket as he struts toward an off-camera location in lock step with the other people.
It is so very obvious that there has been an agreed-upon plan among the 4 to do something together. You know, they INTENDED to do ... something, and they necessarily must have agreed to do something before they exited the vehicle. They don't confer with each other once they're out of the car, they just quickly and purposefully stride toward something, in lock step. Perhaps they all planned inside the car that they were going to get ice cream cones. Once they jumped out, they're walking quickly in the same direction while looking at something off camera because they all know where the ice cream store is and they're really excited to get those treats. The guy seen adjusting the thing in his jacket pocket may be fiddling with his wallet, which he will use to pay for ice cream! If I'm wrong about what they INTENDED to do, then their intent is excellent evidence that the kiddies should be tried as adults for 1st degree. |
You are being ridiculous. First of all, whether you like to accept it or not, it is very clear through research that the male brain does not mature until they are about 25. Criminal justice scholars talk about how people basically grow out of crime. I have 2 sons - 19 and 22. I swear they are the most immature creatures on earth. There is a lot that DC can do with its youth to keep them busy. They have not made that a priority. I'm pretty sure that this group of folks do not read the post so that message is not getting to them. Also, money and bling leading to happiness? That's not a "left leaning" narrative. That's called instagram and what this generation believes. |
I was born and raised in south east and have seen this terrible and sad parenting style first hand. Yes, there is some incredible cruelty in impoverished parenting. Also, the whole idea of a “whupping” being okay needs to stop. That said, yes the problem is intractable. It’s getting worse because everyone is too scared to offend another culture by pointing too closely. Also, the whole criminal justice reform movement is hitting smack dab into rising crime. So basically yea. Nothing can be done. Except in 15 years when it’s been too much and we go back to the 1990’s style of policing, which destroyed some families but worked to stop crime. |
Because it's ok to break some eggs to make omelets, as long as it's your omelets but other people's eggs? |
You are the problem. And your attitude is spreading like wildfire across the nation. I guess we just get live with increased crime and murders as penance for past inequities or some such bs. We shouldn’t police people. We shouldn’t incarcerate. Even with a 40% increase in crime and violence. Let’s just keep doling our money for school and jobs and all the rest, but ignore the punishment piece. |
Or, alternatively, what if we tried some strategies that addressed crime without destroying families? |
I’m pretty sure the families of those who have been murdered by some of DCs 16-17 year olds would say they have been destroyed too. |
Yes. We need policies that prioritize not destroying ANY families. |

And meanwhile there are men who have led others into combat and commanded all before the tender age of 25 (that would be my brother, not your sons). Brain development should not be an excuse to commit crimes without serious punishment. |
| Out-of-wedlock birth creates criminals. You can be as nice as you want and it isn't going to change a damn thing. All it does is to delay the inevitable. Better for DC to create group homes for these children where they'll be guaranteed to get adequate rest and an education. As it stands they don't get either one. So let's stop playing and get about fixing the problem. |
Residential schools have been much in the news lately. Have you followed any of that? |
If you don't think narrative shapes things perhaps you've never heard of Greek myths, or the Bible and it's impact on Western Civ? |
Do their parents care about them? |
I've worked in social services in DC and while there should be even MORE, there is a ton of 'care' on offer for anyone that cares to take it. What do you consider free public schools, sports and rec facilities, public libraries, alternative ed programs, public housing and vouchers, food pantries, free immunizations, college tuition help, summer jobs, etc etc etc |
