OP here - thanks. I was afraid of that but he'll still apply to VT and we'll see. It is what it is at this point. I appreciate the suggestions. |
| Out of curiosity, have you considered VCU or ODU? |
VCU and GMU. Possibly West Virginia U. |
WVU could be on the table. DD had a drop in grades her senior year (went from straight B/B+'s in all APs Junior year to 2 Bs a C and a D in APs/dual enrollment senior fall) and lost her EA admit to Case Western. Applied to WVU and ODU in May because her school counselor told her they had engineering and a late application deadline. Was admitted to both and attended ODU. She didn't like it there (and decided against engineering) and transferred to a SLAC after a year of grade recovery. Note that she had excellent recs, essays, and ECs, 1570 SAT (800 math), 800s on a few SAT 2s, and 5s on nearly all her AP tests. She was also taking the hardest courses available at her FCPS high school - dual enrollment multivariable/linear algebra, both exams for physics C, both AP gov exams etc. We just couldn't get her to do her homework and then she had some other issues pop up over senior year. On the plus side, she seemed to be way more relaxed and had more free time than the kids who were doing their homework. |
Are you saying they rescinded her admission over a mid year D? I have never heard of that over anything less than a final grade before. |
They threatened to rescind it over a mid-year D. Her final grades were even lower - an F (in linear algebra) and a few Cs. The letter threatening the rescind wasn't sent until April, after we'd done admitted students weekend and paid the deposit. By then she didn't think she'd be able to raise her grades enough and with everything else going on, she pretty much gave up. The letter referenced earning a 3.5 UW GPA spring semester, which was mathematically impossible by that point and which she'd never had prior. The official rescind wasn't until mid-summer. |
That makes more sense. Sorry that happened, but glad it turned out well in the end. |
OP here - I'm sorry to hear. Hope she's doing better. My DS took on a lot junior year and when we found out the year was going to start remotely at home, I asked him if he wanted to reevaluate and change his schedule. He said he would keep it as is, but slowly lost focus as the year progressed. We had Case on the list but don't think that's doable now. |
| What about Rose-Hulman? |
