So an attention seeking tattoo where it is impolite to ask about it. Makes sense. |
| I would just remember to be kind, look them in the eye, thank them for their job well done. Just…connect. |
| Generally, the people who have one are those who are going better now. It’s not necessarily a suicide survivor thug. I know a few survivors of various types of assault and abuse who have them. A friend who is partially paralyzed has one. |
| People have gotten them in solidarity too...or remembrance. |
Semi - colon tattoo means they have had a colectomy - usually from Chron's or colitis. |
I know you think you’re being cute but it’s not funny. It represents a suicide survivor. Their sentence isn’t over - more life remains. |
Well, why do you all have that tattoo? |
For support. We did it as a family and bought two more weeks of life before the next attempt. Frankly, I would have done almost anything at that point to keep them alive. A tattoo is such a little thing, but was really meaningful. It will forever remind me how hard everyone in my family worked and how much love we have for each other. It is not easy to have a child or a brother or sister who is having a hard time staying alive. |
Then maybe don't get one that's visible to strangers. |
Or…they can be depressed or have mental health issues - doesn’t always mean suicide |
| Thank you OP, for starting this thread. I think I might get one! It could help. |

They don't "think they're being cute", this is another meaning behind the tattoos for some people. https://www.reddit.com/r/CrohnsDisease/comments/454x61/crohns_disease_tattoo/ |
Don’t be obtuse. Everyone knows that if you have only a semi colon, surgery will restore you to a full colon. |
What does a colon ":" tattoo mean? |
