Data does suggest being over weight can contribute to early periods. But in OP's DD's case, she is not overweight. She's 5'2, which is on the tall side for an 11.5 yr old, and being 115lbs at 5'2" is not overweight, at all. So, I'd say she is not "late". If she is otherwise healthy, I would not worry. It's better to start late, anyways. My DD is 12.5, not started her period, and she is not emtionally or mentally ready for it. |
I'm barely 5', and I started mine close to 14. We are just a family of short people, plus late bloomers. |
| OP, when did your periods start? |
That's concerning |
|
The main thing is that most girls will get it after their first big growth spurt which usually is then gaining to around 100lb but if they start out smaller or bigger I’m not sure it applies so much.
It could be a sign of hormone imbalance if she’s really heavy with no signs yet but I usually say look to genetics before I worry. If you were 14 when you got your period, or if your husbands sisters or mom were older it’s probably just genetic |
| My DD is 13, tall, has breasts, public hair and armpit hair and no period. I was closer to 14 and my mom was 15. |
| It’s really hard to predict on an individual basis - and mostly genetic, although weight can have some influence in “speeding up” for some girls. |
Op - I got mine at 11 and a bit, end of 5th grade for me, so younger than dd is now but I was also 5’5 already at that point. Dd is likely going to be tall but hasn’t had her growth spurt yet. My mom got her period at 10. I don’t know about the women on dh’s side of the family. I was surprised when I saw a bunch of dd’s classmates looking significantly more mature than she does. |
| I got my period at 18. My sister at 14. We were close in height and weight. We're 11 mos apart - Irish Twins |
| My DD got her period today and she is 11.5. I was really hoping to make it past the summer bc of the pool/beach/lake but I knew we were on borrowed time after she grew several inches recently. |
| Is anyone's period plan consisting mostly of period underwear, like Thinx brand or similar, plus wearing black pants or shorts? |
What data? |
| My DD will be 13 in a week and is a little over 5'0" and 100 lbs, and just started getting small breasts in the past 6-9 months. No period yet. I got mine when I had just turned 14. It's fine and normal. |
Op here - maybe her first few will be irregular, many are. My dd’s feet just grew several sizes so I’m expecting a height growth to follow, and then maybe puberty will really start. So many of her friends seem to be more developed, and while I’m not truly concerned she did bring it up to me which is why I posted. She said many of her friends shave, need deodorant, bras, etc, and she’s nowhere near needing any of those things. She wears an all natural deodorant because she likes to but has no discernible smell at all. She talked about some of her friends who have their periods and I’m glad the girls are able to speak openly about it. I think she feels like people are “expecting” her to be more developed because she’s bigger, and a couple of the girls her size are in full puberty so she was concerned that there’s something wrong. |
No. I'll get a couple for nights only, and as backup with a pad or alone on light flow to prevent whole sheet changes (bunk bed). But the concept of using them without a pad and for day, hard no. That would be like wearing the same dirty pad all day long. I suppose you could change them several times throughout the day, but that would require a lot of pairs and be a PIA. |
