How big a party needs a Porta-Potty?

I have avoided some parties in the past because of prior experience with 20 min waits to use the bathroom.

I agree with this in general, but given the size was sort of sprung on you, I wonder if you really want to continue to be the hosts.

Is she having it catered? That's (I think) the biggest expense. If there is the potential for 75-100 people to come, there will be a lot of cleanup and potential damage to your yard. That's not even mentioning the hassle of having people go through the house and potential for (unintended, well-meaning) accidents there, like something getting knocked over, or a kid getting into something while the mom is in the bathroom. I mean, maybe not, but would it be worth bowing out as gracefully as you can and either offering to split or pay for a different venue?

I don't know. It seems like you got way more than you bargained for, and if that needs to be changed, the sooner the better.

I will do everything in my power not to use the bathroom at someone else's house. Is this an outdoor party? All young people?

I have been to parties before at houses on septic systems where people rented port-a-potties. Especially with an older septic having a large party could pretty much necessitate it. If you've lived with septic long enough you should have a pretty good sense of whether or not you would need it.

This right here. Except guess who? Kids! For some reason, little boys?!

I went to a Memorial Day college graduation party where the hosts did bring in a port-a-potty. I think there were probably ~60 guests.

There was just one downstairs half bath and every adult used that. The only adults I saw going into the port-a-potty were parents helping the kids who demanded (read - threw a tantrum) to use the port-a-potty. The adults did not look happy to have to go in to assist, either.

I think you'll be fine. The most of a line I ever saw was one person waiting.

The hosts did have hand gel outside and antibac hand wipes as well.

If you’re going to use a porta potty, at least get the trailer ones that are more bathroom with running water.

So we actually rented a port a potty for a get together in our yard this spring. It was such a success that we extended the rental for the summer. We have a lot of parties.

^^Should have added, it’s good not just for large parties but also for yard work. DH uses it all the time when he’s working in the yard. No more traipsing mud through the house? Winner!

I’m having an open house for 50+ next week. While we have 4 1/2 bathrooms we’re only using the 1/2 on the main floor for the party. Never even though of this as a consideration in planning.

No way on earth would I EVER consider getting a port a potty.

Do you think you’re going to have some massive run on the bathroom? If someone’s in there you wait. There’s not going to be a massive line for the bathroom. If it’s a true emergency (thinking little kid who can’t wait) you let him use another bathroom.

Very nice of you, OP.

Shut your bedroom door tight. Open the door to your son's room, clean it up and the bathroom. Put a big sign in the hallway pointing to use his bathroom.

If you get a porta-potty get a nice one with a water tank that allows flushing and washing your hands. Yes they are expensive.

What is going to happen? Are you afraid they’ll steal your “toys”?
