NP. Baltimore is more than its crime statistics. It’s a wonderful, weird, creative city with lots of fun stuff to see and do. OP, if you’re looking to just stroll around, I’d recommend Fell’s Point or The Avenue in Hampden. Lots of cute little places to shop and get a bite or a cocktail. |

For teens, I would do Hampden as others mentioned and the Baltimore Museum of Art nearby. It has one of the best Matisse/Cezanne collections on the east coast as well as an interesting Contemporary section. The sculpture garden is nice and there is a lovely restaurant, Gertrude’s, if you want to have drinks or early dinner by the fountain.
In Hampden, there’s a crazy donut shop, the Charmery for ice cream, tons of fun restaurants. If you’re downtown, the water taxi, Fells Point (check out Thames Street Oysters for lobster rolls and amazing seafood), the National Aquarium. Pitango Gelato is good in FP too. I would probably spend the morning doing the Aquarium — and don’t skip the rainforest section, teens might enjoy seeing the sloths and parrots — and head to the harbor/FP area for lunch. If you don’t like seafood there is Japanese-owned ramen down there that my friends from Tokyo loved. For something fancier, sit on the water at Loch Bar or one of the other restaurants at Four Seasons. The Charleston was recently profiled in NYT and is doing food to go. If you do the afternoon up in Hampden/BMA area, check out Woodberry Kitchen or La Cuchara for dinner. Beautiful loft spaces in the old mill neighborhood with fire pits and outdoor dining. You’d definitely need a reservation. |
So is Baghdad it doesn’t mean the crime should be ignored. |
Ah, thanks for this comment. I’ll just go ahead and completely disregard your opinion from here on out. |
| Another vote for AVAM and the Walters. |
😂 Yes, you’re right, it’s scary, scary place, practically indistinguishable from Baghdad. Better stay safe in your suburban paradise! OP, if you’re not terrified of scary scary Baltimore, you’ve gotten some good advice. I think a hidden gem is the Museum of Industry. It’s not far from Visionary Arts. Dinner in Little Italy would then be convenient. I live in Hampden and can vouch for great restaurants and shopping! And of course there’s the BMA right nearby. |
Thoughts about drinking wine in a separate living room in a chain hotel? Go for it. |
Work. |
| Is Little Italy still worth visiting? |
| I’d say Little Italy is worth it. Still a few games. Especially with kids, Vaccaro’s all dessert menu is super fun. |
You live in your little Hampden bubble. DW is from Baltimore we have both worked there. The crime statistics can’t be ignored. Even the Guardian Angels HQ was recently ransacked. |
+1. Other posters are stupid and missing your point. Why would someone dismiss the police helicopters and dysfunction in Baltimore as some weird quirk? I have friends who work at shock trauma and they stories they tell of the constant violence and injury coming in are heartbreaking. |
