Hate my highlights

Lol, what do you expect money back? Unless it was a major mistake (like chopping off your hair incorrectly or highlights like a skunk) I wouldn’t expect a refund. Plus after you’ve asked them to fix it and they did that’s more than enough. If you want maybe you could contact the salon owner and see if she/he could have some other stylist fix it for free. But that’s...alot...and hard to do if you left pleased from the fix appointment

OP - take a picture of your hair and then look at it compared to the photos you showed her. When I look in the mirror, I think my current haircut is MUCH shorter than I asked for and I hate it, but I also had my headshot taken for work last week and was really surprised at the length of my hair. It actually IS what I asked for, but for whatever reason I don't see it that way when I look in the mirror.

Probably this, we've all been there!

I am happy that I do my color, highlights and lowlights at home and with drugstore box colors. I thought all of you would have learned these skills by watching youtube at home during pandemic.

I didn't leave pleased. But I also wasn't about to keep damaging my hair and give her a third opportunity to go too drastic. I am still incredibly upset about this. I think asking for something subtle and it being drastic IS a major mistake. Then "fixing" it back to what it originally looked like isn't fixing it at all.

Your DH sounds controlling if he cares what you spent on you hair.

Get over it. That isn't even that much much for BOTH highlights and a cut.

Once I spent that just on highlights and they were so bad that I went home and corrected it myself with drug store color. This damaged my hair. But oh well....get over it

that is cheap for a cut and highlight twice. Maybe they're just not for you.

I only see a new stylist who is personally recommended by someone with good highlights. It’s too easy to screw up. My current stylist is mid 50’s and when she retires I’m screwed (I’m 41.)

I loathe thinking about seeing someone new. Maybe I’ll go gray then! Ha, kidding, sort of.

I’m out in Loudoun and pay $150 for cut, color and highlights. But took me a while to find her. She is a sole proprietor.

But neither look like OPs pictures. The hairstylist obviously sucks and overcharges.

She doesn't set her prices an OP likely knew the cost before going.

That is frustrating OP. I agree you just have to deal with the cost and move on, though.

Have you had highlights you like before? I have gone to very highly recommended colorists before and been unhappy with the results whenever I do any kind of bleach and tone, whether highlights or all over. I have ultimately just accepted that while my hair can handles bleach, it doesn't take it well. So now I just color my hair at home, sticking to box colors that are just a little lighter than my natural color. In the end, it looks better on my hair. I actually have a lot of natural highlights and low lights in my hair, which still show up with an allover color. It will never look as good as those perfect subtle highlights, but I think I just need to accept that my hair doesn't do that.

And I've spent much more than $250. I used to go to Immortal Beloved, the colorist holy grail in DC before it closed, and a cut and color there could easily cost my $400+. Even my colorists are visibly frustrated with the results when they do it. My hair just does not respond well to bleach. I'm probably going to stop dying and just go gray soon (I'm early 40s) because I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that my hair will never look quite how I imagine I'd like it to. I think I need to do some radical acceptance!

It's his money.

OP here - of course I knew the price. I didn't mind paying that much for a service I expected to enjoy. I wouldn't mind the money aspect if it didn't feel like I was throwing the money out.

And yes my husband cares. He doesn't mind the price either but expects accurate service too.

I have a stylist I love near my old house but it's far away. I guess I"ll have to go back there next time, if there is one.

Even when I was a SAHM, my DH never cared what I spent. You just got a crappy cheap DH. I spend what I want without asking/ telling whether I work or not.
