Hate my highlights

I got my highlights done a few days ago. I told her subtle. I’m not good at explaining what I want. I showed many pictures. I’m new to the area so she has only cut my hair which I love. I was done at the salon and went home. It was so blond. I hated it. It was $260 for a cut and highlight. I email her and say it’s too much, can you take some out and make it more subtle? So she does that and now it’s basically my original color with light brown highlights. Google subtle highlights and those pictures are not light brown highlights. Ugh. She bleached my hair and has run color and toner through it twice and it’s not what I showed her in the pictures. I haven’t tipped her yet and don’t want to. I don’t want to complain again bc I have wasted so much time, money and my hair is probably fried. I’m really pissed about how much it cost and so is my husband. What do I do now?

Might need to wait for health hair to grow out, and make sure you mask hair a few times a week.

Ok so I literally had the exact same experience, OP!! Moved to new city, new stylist, got highlights, they are way more extensive and blonde than I wanted. There is no easy fix. I’m kinda sick about it because not only does it look bad, it’s bad for your hair.

No advice, just commiserating. I don’t think I’ll ever do highlights again.

Thanks pps. What about the cost? Do I just have to accept ive wasted 250$?

The good news is she probably just added a darker toner to make it more subtle and that will fade the more you wash it

yeah, OP. This has happened to me too. you're not getting the money back. She tried to fix it, you don't like the fix either. Just move on. No tip. But the original $$ is gone. Just go elsewhere from now on, even for cuts. Sorry.

What a nightmare client you are. Give her her godd*amn tip! She did her job...twice. She can't read your mind. It doesn't sound like she did anything wrong, you just don't like it. I'm sure she never wants to hear from you again.

Isn’t that why I brought pictures? You would never know the difference between what my hair look liked last week and today. The only difference is I’m out $250 and my hair is bleached.

I wonder if she DID give you what you asked for/showed her in pictures, but it just looks different on you than you thought it would.


OP - take a picture of your hair and then look at it compared to the photos you showed her. When I look in the mirror, I think my current haircut is MUCH shorter than I asked for and I hate it, but I also had my headshot taken for work last week and was really surprised at the length of my hair. It actually IS what I asked for, but for whatever reason I don't see it that way when I look in the mirror.

If you are in the DC area complaining about a cut and highlights for $260, you need to get a clue. That is cheap.

But neither look like OPs pictures. The hairstylist obviously sucks and overcharges.
