But alas... UVA lost. Lot's of other teams beat Santa Clara in the regular season but didn't make it to the championship game. Are they also just as good or better? Santa Clara won. UVA lost. Get a life. |
+1000. Santa Clara has won a title before, but this is the first for Marshall University. Go HERD! |
Santa Clara only lost 1 game this year. Otherwise I agree with everything else you have to say. |
| I'm not a soccer expert but I did watch the game...FSU seemed better but they absolutely choked with the back to back PK misses. Two unforced errors, they should've easily made when the SC goalie guessed wrong on the direction of the kick. |
| I know this is how soccer works but PKs are a terrible way to decide a championship. Should play until someone scores a goal. |
Agreed totally. And permit more substitution or in-outs in extra time. |
| For college they should go straight to team GPA to decide it. |
it's more fun if you disallow substations and pull a player from the field every 5 minutes. Once you get to two exhausted kids playing 1 on 1, someone should score |
| Didn't catch this game, but watched the UNC game - they were great at pushing the UNC D and capitalizing on mistakes. It wasn't pretty but it was effective. |
Fair and objective officiating also matters. Objectively, this is a foul. Fl St should have been awarded a PK. https://youtu.be/-MCUmHoWytg?t=2007 There's no reason VAR shouldn't be used in a national championship game. The game is televised, and there are multiple angles that can be used to review a call. And it does a dis-service to these girls not to get it right. Ref called 19 fouls against Santa Clara and 13 against Fl St, but she missed the most important foul of all. |
It looked like a foul in the box for sure. However, given how FSU looked during the PK round, you shouldn’t assume they would have scored on the play. FSU also picked up 3 very well-deserved yellows in the final minutes of play, including one for a ridiculously blatant jersey grab/pull to the ground. Though FSO were the better team overall, I was definitely rooting for Santa Clara at the end. The intensity they were able to muster with those tired legs was inspiring. |
Yeah, but they only had 8 seeded teams this year instead of the normal 16, so it's not as big of an upset as it may sound. |
