Lamborn and Gohmert have been known for years to sleep in their offices on the couch or cots in order to 'save' money. It also lets them say they're tied to D.C. and are true residents of their home states - political points and the like. Its a Republican thing. It only became a public health issue when a viral plague descended on the country and they both tested positive. I feel bad for the Capitol staff forced to clean the offices up after them. |
It's a virtue signal Tea Party thing. |

In an interview with Colorado Public Radio on Friday in Washington, D.C., Lamborn called the aide who is suing him a “disgruntled employee.” Asked whether he let his son live in the U.S. Capitol basement for several weeks, Lamborn said: “I gave my son temporary housing as my guest, because the housing market in Washington, D.C., is very tight. And he moved here to get a job at the Pentagon, and I’m proud of my son.” |
Pentagon huh? |
I guess those congressional staffers were pretty good at navigating USAjobs for him after all. |
Yes, there are a bunch of “freedom caucus” guys who do this. We should start calling them the freeloading caucus. |
Yes it’s a thing. Even for Kevin McCarthy and Paul Ryan. And you’re right, they can get roommates - some longtime sitting Senators even have group houses together, not just staffers. https://www.rollcall.com/2021/01/13/where-should-congress-live-during-a-pandemic-some-freshmen-pick-the-office/ https://www.npr.org/2020/05/13/852359650/pandemic-revives-calls-to-ban-lawmakers-from-bunking-in-their-offices https://nypost.com/2018/05/01/these-politicians-are-sleeping-in-their-dc-offices-to-save-money/ |
Actually, I'm pretty sure it's always been a public health issue to use a workplace, including shared workplace furniture like a couch, as a domicile. A contagious virus just makes it worse. But these people. "No one should support public housing, because irresponsible people who can't earn enough for rent shouldn't be allowed to live" (or something, hard to tell). But also, "DC is so expensive, I need to live in a taxpayer-funded building...and let my son live with me." |
Wasn't this kind of a joke on West Wing? https://westwing.fandom.com/wiki/A_Good_Day |
Republicans were trying very hard to pass employer liability protection for exactly this reason. I don't think they have to prove the virus came from him to prove gross negligence. |
Republicons are all disgusting and disease ridden at this point. Hope the staffer has learned a lesson supporting these people and wins their case. |
Such respect for the Capitol building and federal property. You can move people into the basement if you’re a Congressman, because they’re your guests and you’ve taken up residence in the building. Sounds totally reasonable, right? |
Yeah we know how much "respect" these people have for the Capitol building post January 6th. Surprised they didn't let their entire extended family live in the basement. |
I don't. I know he's from CO but I'm betting he helped his boss object to local mask laws, shutting down public venues, and lockdown protocols. Meanwhile he was complaining about having to go into work and not being able to WFH. I can't stand wealthy Republicans who want perks for themselves that they think are too good for the 'common' people. |
Ew. It’s gross he makes people work where he sleeps... |
