So are we still freaking out about unmasked adults at playgrounds?

But, people like you are why we don't go to playgrounds.

We have been extreme cautious the entire year. We kept our kids home, we did not go anywhere. We maybe saw other people 5-7 times the entire year. Every time only outside and in masks. But we are now fully vaccinated and we are starting to live again. The CDC issued clear guidelines that pretty much say that vaccinated people no longer have to wear masks indoor either! Although I am not ready yet to go to restaurants or other crowded places (because our children are still not vaccinated), I will stop wearing masks outside. Clearly, you do you, but please stop the angry shaming.

Your kids aren't vaccinated. They still pose a risk to others.

You are cray cray. Best to stay at home, for your mental health and so the rest of us don’t have to deal with you.

Just wait until The Atlantic writes a piece about the new guidance. The comments will be gold, Jerry. Gold!

You can smell the terror among the asocial weirdos in the DC area who were hoping this pandemic would go on forever. Now, they might have to take a shower, put on pants and go back into the real world and interact with others. Horrors!

The likelihood of getting covid outside is not zero. Not all adults are vaccinated. Kids are not vaccinated. Kids are in close contact with each other on the playground. The vaccine is to reduce your symptoms. You can still get and spread covid but the goal is for you to be asymptomatic. Great interpretation to meet your needs though.

The still getting and spreading thing isn't true. Keep up with the science! Vaccines = a Wall against the Virus. Yay Vaccines!

But why do you care if I, a vaccinated adult, no longer wear a mask on the playground?

Let the people who want to freak out freak out... says more about them than you. Follow the cdc guidance and don’t let those freaking out get to you. In 5 years they’ll look back and realize they were being ridiculous.

You seem a bit overly invested in what others think, OP.

I realize you just got off a time travel machine from a year ago, but you don’t have to do literally anything if you’re fully vaccinated. I let my face be totally free at the playground today. I noticed a somewhat older woman who was a nanny/babysitter come up to the playground in a mask but then removed it. Hurray for normalcy!

Wearing masks is for safety and it has nothing to do with normalcy. Other countries regularly wear masks and their population is much healthier. We could get through this a lot faster if people like you weren't so selfish. Its sad we cannot teach our kids to care about others and only their parents needs and wishes are what count. Maybe this is why our country is in shambles.

Please stop exaggerating. Our country isn't in shambles. Yes, other countries do wear mask regularly, but many times that is because of air pollution that is much worse than what we have here. I would also suggest that diet plays a bigger role in having a healthier population than masks in those places. Vaccinated people aren't selfish for taking their mask off outdoors at a playground. The science is in and the recommendations have changed. This isn't a bad thing.

In the meantime, please take down the "we believe in science" signs from your front lawn if you have one.

yikes.

+1 on the "yikes"

I have worn a mask every time I've left my house for like a year. When the CDC said I no longer had to wear it (I am fully vaccinated) outdoors unless I was in a really crowded area, I stopped wearing it outside, including on the playground. I always carry one with me (in case it actually got crowded, which it never does) and if someone asked me to put it on, I would. Otherwise, I've been conservative about this, and feel no need to continue wearing it outdoors.

This is my MO as well.

Why are people so mean about this? I think that it will take a lot of time for some of us to get out of the shell shock of the last year. It will definitely feel strange and cause a lot of anxiety to run around maskless after the lockdowns, rates of infection and death toll of the past year. Plus, we do not know who is vaccinated and who is not.

I still haven't had dose #2, and I know many people who are in the line still so we're still masked. I expect that to continue for the next few months.

Just don't worry about those who still wear masks. If they're not bothering you, why would you judge? You have no idea what they've been through.

As an aside, I lived in E Asia for a while. People wear masks in big cities regularly sans COVID so why is it a big deal here?

Because mask wearing is erroneously conflated with political tribalism in both directions.

Right, but isn't this a thread about adults wearing or not wearing masks at the playground?

I am starting to ease up a lot. Sometimes I do bc it's crowded, or bc I want to encourage my kids to keep theirs on, or bc I ran into a store and forgot to take it off, or bc I'm talking closely with someone and I don't know how they feel. But as someone more than a month past my 2nd dose, I'm trying to fully embrace the actual science and get used to masks off!

Cite a study that says something different. Link a study that says that you are likely to get COVID from exposure at the playground. Or outside with people you don’t know and are basically not in contact.

Oh, BS. Tell that to the 7 fully vaccinated coaches of the New York Yankees.
