High School and Travel Soccer

A coach of a team that plays in CCL would have some nerve to tell a player they couldn’t play in HS!

Many Travel Programs in the area don't have a spring season for their players. Their HS players have optional training for those playing HS.

Independent HS teams play in the fall, whereas VA public HS teams play in the spring.

Depending on the coach (HS or travel) your player may experience a range of guidance/restrictions.

With travel played fall and spring, some teams will "lose" players at practice because of HS soccer matches. Sometimes it's reversed with HS teams losing players because of travel matches. Think JeffCup or FC Delco.

The most common conflicts occur around State Cup tournaments versus State playoffs.

These conflicts should give your player plenty of opportunity to communicate with the coach.

Practices do overlap, but you pick one. My son attends HS practices/games 4 days a week and goes to Club practice 1 day and games on the weekend. Both coaches are ok with the arrangement.

He gets no breaks and it is exhausting for sure.

Are you talking about private or public? Are public school coaches required to make players attend a certain number of practices or can players just show up to the games?

My guys come to our practice when they can, but are discouraged to double up on high school practice nights. They play in our games on the weekend.

A lot of the really good players skip HS. Who wants to be coached by the science teacher?

In my experience kids love playing for their school/with their friends and classmates. What you’re saying doesn’t match with what I’ve seen at all.

Hs coaches are in the high majority also club coaches.

It’s 2021. You sound like you’re stuck in the VHS era

Lol these dads who think they understand NOVA HS soccer are hysterical. This is not the 1980s.. almost 100% of Varsity NOVA regional district teams are coached by highly licensed club coaches and check full of ecnl ot ecnl/rl players. Would suggest you go watch Mclean or Yorktown varsity girls and tell me you see kick ball.. Sorry your school suxs ...

Yup. My DD’s club coach is also a HS Soccer Coach. On the other hand, my daughter’s MS science teacher is club soccer coach.

Varsity level, more experienced (maybe club) coaches - unfortunately, JV still crappy coaches.

Yeah JV is the science teacher, or a recent college grad who just moved back home

Daughter plays CCL. I would laugh at our club team if they said she "cant" play HS. Im not aware of any CCL team that wont allow a kid to play HS.

After DA’s demise and subsequent extinction there are no leagues left who prohibit players from participating in HS
