I hate Karl Frisch as much as the next guy, but really? Would you rather they keep concurrent than have a separate virtual program???? You're insane. |
| I am okay with this, because I am not a racist asshole. |
| I sure hope it's one troll talking about reporting children who just want an education. How awful of you. |
I thought conservatives were against Big Gov? |
Immigration is solely federal domain. And there is federal case law that states public schools must educate all children, regardless of immigration status. So this makes sense. They are staying in their federalist lane. |
|
That makes sense. If schools report undocumented kids then presumably their parents or guardians won’t send them to school. So we’ll end up with an underclass of uneducated teens and young adults that will be easy prey for gangs. Kids should not have to worry that they’ll be dragged out of their classrooms and sent to detention centers.

Is the school board blaming ICE for low parental participation in PTA etc? The children are enrolled in school and n the USA public education is available to all children and has been for decades. I think this is just grandstanding or blame shifting for some achievement indexes like math now is racist... Where the fed gov should be paying more is in categories where students are new to this country and have had limited or interrupted formal education. That also impacts attendance, testing, graduation statistics and maybe there's a new category. Also per pupil costs- UAM released by ORR can be additions to households. Perhaps each state or better yet counties when a single county gets >50 annually. Public statistics that are released. So I have no idea why Anderson and Frtisch are pontificating. |

You get smaller class sizes if you require proof of immigration status. This is more resources per child.
Alabama implemented requirements to check immigration status, and registration dropped substantially. |
This is a terrible argument and NOT how works around here. If registration drops they cut the number of teachers which results in larger classes. Schools actually get more teachers/aides in title one schools and classes with ESL students. |
Exactly: first choice for me would be no illegal immigrants and an end to the policies that basically encourage it. But if illegal immigrant kids are here, I'd much rather them be in school than not. |
|
It is not the job of schools to police undocumented immigrants and they have no legal mandate for doing so.
End of story. |
|
As if we don't dump enough on schools' plates. They teach, feed, discipline, provide health services...now people want them to be immigration officials? Come on.
|
You need stats to determine that uneducated people commit more crime? |
They aren’t really doing a couple of those things (i.e., teaching and disciplining) |
Paying in, is not the same as the marginal revenue vs the marginal cost. It's not one individual student, but how much extra is the school system having to pay for a large group of students. How many extra teachers, or even extra schools? Is the extra property taxes form this group really covering that(most of the employment taxes won't be there because they are illegal)? |
