Ding ding ding! We have a winner.

This is interesting in light of the anecdotes people are sharing about high stats kids that got rejected or WL everywhere. It seems as though a lot of students went heavy on reaches.

It’s even more interesting that these schools are rejecting applications and then ending up on this list.

My kid's two safety schools are on the list, and I think they would be great places to study.

Schools may want to maintain their standards, so they have places left but only for qualified applicants.

I would bet that at the larger state schools there’s also a question of what schools/majors are being applied for, e.g., computer science may be full, but history still has spots available. Also, many schools are going to wait lists, and while the University of Chicago likely has lots of qualified kids on their wait list, some of these schools it may think they might get some better applications than those already on their wait list. Based on what we’ve heard in this board, some of the kids that had good stats and overshot on reaches may decide that Clemson sounds like a good option.

Some people have been trying to point this out on here for a long time, but the T20 or Bust crowd can’t be convinced that there is a great education to be had at lots of other schools.

Why is Boston University on here?

Wow. This makes feel a bit better about next year. No top choices on this list, but some decent school.

I’m shocked to see Rose-Hulman, which is the top engineering school which doesn’t offer a grad degree.

Also stood out

Michigan State
UMD-BC
Kent State
U Arizona
U Oregon
U Oklahoma
Providence

BU (but only transfers)

UNC at Greensboro, Charlotte and Wilmington, which are some of the more selective UNCs outside of Chapel Hill
NC A&T, which is an HBCU

Lawrence (which my kid plans to use as a safety next year for IR and musicJ
Kent Stat
York College (PA)
Duquesque
Ursinus
Goucher
Mary Baldwin
Marymount
Marquette
Juanita
Quinnipac
Susquehanna
Ohio Wesleyan

.

I remember my extremely anxious high school junior with a great GPA and scores etc melting down and sobbing that she wasn't going to get in anywhere and my husband literally showing her those charts. Most schools aren't that selective. If you want to go to college, you can go.

For transfers only. They likely need a few transfers in 1-2 departments

BU is transfer only, I think. Perhaps filling out the class of 2024?

Anonymous wrote:How are schools like Clemson (51% acc rate) and UNCC (65% acc rate) on this list? Does that mean that they screwed up rejected too many and are now looking for new applications?

Probably. If kids are applying to 15 schools each, they likely misjudged their yield.

Anonymous wrote:What is Clemson looking for? My kid with a 28 ACT and a 3.5 gpa was rejected. They may get more freshman applicants, but they’re not going to get what they’re looking for.

28 is a low SAT— especially since Clemson is largely engineering.
