What will it take for ACPS to be safe & provide excellent education?

Wait what? Can you tell me more about ending TAG?

Lose the public housing. That's literally the only thing that will work.

Come on, blaming ACPS’s problems on demographics is a cop out and doesn’t even take into account differences in performance between elementary schools with similar populations.

Two very different issues. Safe would be a serious focus on ventilation given capacity and facility issues. and with the millions from the different Covid relief acts, there is no excuse for not putting a HEPA filter in every classroom as DCPS and other surrounding districts are doing.

We need more affordable private schools in Alexandria

Can you expand? Which two schools are you comparing?

Say Polk vs. J-H for example. While the test scores may not be significantly different, J-H has had unique problems for years (hopefully ACPS has finally found a good principal for that school).

Listen to an ACPS TAG meeting sometime. They just hired a few person from Fairfax to oversee the program.

They connected the TAG program to TC Williams. And since its genesis is racist, that is a reason for it to go. It doesn't support the ACPS view of equity.

And ACPS jumped on VA's plan to do away with math acceleration and recently announced that they won't be doing math differentiation (aka TAG) in the fall.

If you have a really young kid (preK, K, first or second), don't count on TAG existing in a few years.

Fckkk, my child is starting K this fall. TAG was the only reason we were planning to do ACPS.

There isn't TAG or any real differentiation in kinder so you should be ok for the coming school year.

Homeschool, private, parochial. Or do it yourself. In the early grades you could take 20 to 30 minutes a day and supplement ACPS with math and language arts curriculums. At that age, it doesn't take much. But then your kid will likely be super bored in ACPS.
