When did Penn become prestigious?

I always thought Cornell was at the bottom.

Penn’s nowhere close. Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth all below.

Become? It always was.

Cornell only became associated with being at the bottom of the Ivy League with the rise of USNWR. Cornell gets dinged in that ranking for any number of reasons, but for a very long while it was considered solidly middle of the pack. Used to be considered very similarly to how Stanford is seen nowadays.

I question the PP who suggested Columbia used to be less prestigious than Penn. Certainly not the case; has always been considered right behind HYP.

For undergraduate? No. Only with the resurgence of NYC did Columbia College begin to clearly become viewed as a step below HYP but a step above the other Ivies. Maybe it was different when it came to the graduate/professional schools.

Columbia undergrad has always been > Penn undergrad.

You people insisting their are universal tiers between these schools are pathetic. Ridiculously pathetic.

Christ on a whole wheat cracker, give it a break with the preposterous elitism for like five minutes!

It’s always entertaining to sit back and watch DCUM’s “finest” engage in pissing matches re: Ivies and other “elite” schools.

Sometime around 1750.

I attended hs in the 1980s in NJ - students at my HS with SAT scores in the 1300s were consisrently admitted to Columbia
back then. It was definitely considered an easier ivy to gain admittance (ditto Cornell).

Why are people constantly posting these Ivy ranking threads? So weird. Is OP just an obsessive poster. OP, you must have a screw loose if in your head you are truly wondering whether Penn is prestigious or not. I feel sorry for your kids.

I wonder if it is international people who now live in the US but were educated elsewhere and have only heard of a few schools such as Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, Columbia. Perhaps they freak out when their kid brings up a school like Duke or Cornell or Dartmouth. They assume these schools are low level because they lack the international brand name familiarity of Harvard.

Maybe Cornell suffered from the changes at IBM.

Hey doofus, back in the 80s, 1300s were excellent SAT scores. Not as good as mine however.
You petty navel-gazers assessing differences between these schools yet saying non-Ivies suck are truly pathetic.

It’s like pasting numbers to beetles and having a beetle race. It’s a silly, useless activity but kind of fun.
