DC DPW workers urinating in the alleys

Anonymous
Yep, the city is too dysfunctional to have public restrooms- they would never be taken care of properly and definitely serve as places for nefarious activities. I just moved to a place where they have them in public parks and was amazed at their existence.

Regarding the use of "Karen," can we just stop with that now? It's been established that it's both misogynist and racist to use that term. Get with the times and don't look uneducated.

We were using the Wilson High School track and a public bus driver (there is kind of a pull up bus depot right outside) asked the pool folks (Parks and Recreation?) if he could use the restroom and they said "no". Unbelievable that the city cannot coordinate this. Also, we give a lot of money out in this city for "job training" and I see no reason that entry level jobs on sanitation crews cleaning public restrooms + facilities - that lead to other jobs-- can't be a thing. Or import robots from Japan. Before I get hazed, my grandma was a life-long janitor. It's work, and I'm not suggesting it be life-long.

How do you know it’s DPW workers? In Columbia Heights, I’d assume it’s the large unhoused population.

Presumably they arrive on garbage trucks. And are wearing uniforms.

I’m sure they would be relieved to know that a few households along their routes might be kind enough to offer this. I can imagine the fuss if they pulled over to go to a restaurant. (OMG — they’re taking breaks on our dime...”). Are there any public facilities left in DC beyond the occasional Metro station? Nobody’s thrilled with the alley solution, but, OP, you haven’t suggested any great alternatives either.

In other cites, city workers use public restrooms. Sometimes they carry keys for when the facilities are closed.

If crime in your city is so bad that you can't have public restrooms available to workers, then you need to vote for different people who have different policies.

Who said anything about crime? The point was made that there are few public facilities in DC — not that there are facilities that are unavailable because of “crime”. No one —recently— has campaigned for pissoirs, so voting “for different people “ isn’t likely to be a useful near-term solution.

Though frankly, they do a pretty lousy job in general. They often do not pick up trash bags that are adjacent to trash cans, or smaller dumped trash. This just allows the rat population to thrive.

Lol. Dc is now not only a shithole but a pisshole too.

What bathroom?

There’d be no outrage if the trashmen were white.

I don’t know why but this response made me laugh.

Not reasonable. No one wants white men urinating on their houses either. Not everything is about race.

In Alexandria the workers use the bathrooms at parks/soccer fields that are open to the public and often have a key if they’re locked.

I am shocked there is no where for DPW to go. That’s horrible.

For the DCUM Racial Rift trolls, everything is about race. (Certainly seems like some posters have an agenda to make everything about race to try to divide DC politically. It’s the same thing red area people hear on Fox all the time, so there is no shortage of people in red America that could do this.)

"you don't like me peeing six feet away from your window?! Is it because I'm black?!"

How incompetent is the DC Gov if they have not planned out what their workers should do???
