8th grade SOLs - HS impact

Oof. Will there be an opportunity to test in the fall, when young teens would have had a chance maybe to get vaccinated?

Was verified credit deemed or something for last year, so kids at least have that one in the bag, so to speak?
Anonymous
No verified credit w/I the SOL. It’s ridiculous

Maybe instead of making goofy proposals to force all kids onto one math track the geniuses in Richmond should fix this verified credit nonsense!

. Yes. Kids got them if they were passing the class.

What is the purpose of this option if it doesn't count for a verified credit?

"The Virginia Dept. of Education has provided a Remote Assessment option for full-time distance learning students in grades 3-8 who, due to the pandemic, are receiving all their instruction remotely and will not go to their school to take the SOL tests. Students can access during our SOL schedule by going to https://www.doe.virginia.gov/remotetest/."

Agreed. It seems like there is a mistake somewhere. The message from the APS Superintendent was internally inconsistent. Betting the problem is at the state leve

You're right! I just looked on Parentvue, and my DS got verified credit for World Geo and Algebra in 8th grade last year. Somehow I missed that before now.

So why did they create this remote option? I clicked through and it sure looks like a real test. Says kids need to get code to take the test from their school. Maybe Aps is misunderstanding something here and passing bad info on to the MS and HS?

Please contact your school. We see clarity. Maybe they will look into if they hear from more of us.

Point is not sure school is right. State seemed to create an end of year test that is online to take the place of SOL. Seems odd this test can’t yield verified credit. Why else would it exist? So maybe APS is not understanding what this test is and how it should be used.

How would you get to the bottom of this? I'm not willing to risk the verified credit for my kid, even though it seems like Swanson is sending the wrong message.

Any report from Kenmore, Gunston or WMS on this?

Anyone learn anything new? Considering filling out the opt-out form, having DC sit for the virtual geometry test (for practice if nothing else), and then take the geometry SOL in the Fall when hopefully they have been vaccinated).

Swanson just did the reading inventory. Why is the SOL necessary?

I still don't understand the online option if it doesn't give a verified credit.
