| It’s not arrogance when we’re talking about the best. I’m not the only one who thinks this. Coaches and other parents agree. |
Why was that decision made? |
Why did they back out on their game against Loudoun? |
McLean 07 wasn’t prepared to play Loudoun 07. Doing everything they can do to qualify for ECNL playoffs. Avoiding games and delaying. Only the 07 game was cancelled. It wasn’t Covid repeated because Loudoun 07 practiced this weekend and McLean 07 has a scrimmage today. |
I am just speculating but CW has like 4 teams. I don't think you can coach 4 teams and enter them in tourneys |
WOW. Can a team just decide not to play a league match? |
| Why do you care so much? If your DD is on one of the teams, you should ask your coach why a game was postponed. Both Loundoun and McLean have good teams in this age group so they will play each other at some point. |
This doesn’t add up. Jeff Cup is over multiple weekends. He didn’t have 4 teams at 1 weekend. |
| CW is well know to have favorites and is very obvious. Players being unhappy are expected. |
Our coach told our kids in the next few weeks, but not sure if that's internal or if it will published yet. |
Is this primarily an issue for the substitutes or starters? As an example, are starters allowed to make multiple mistakes, but if a sub makes the same mistake, she is immediately benched? Or is this favoritism more towards players of parents who are heavily involved with the club? |
My experience is he has pre-assigned amounts of playtime and it is not adjusted based on playing great or making mistakes. Some play 75% and others play closer to 25%. And a select few play (maybe 2 players) almost 100%. This is on a team with a normal roster size (18 players or less). I do not know what he does for teams with over 20 players. |
Maybe they are waiting to get better players to try to solidify their playoff spot? I think they have to win out to get a chance to play in the playoffs. But then again, they have not been going to any tournaments. Will they compete in the South Carolina tournament? Or drop out. |
| Not sure how I would feel if my kid played <25%. Playing time is key to development even over the quality of training. |
We’ve been on both sides of this with our kids. One of our kids has always been a starter on her ECNL team and plays the entire game. Our other two kids were substitutes for several years for their teams, sometimes only playing less than 5 minutes in a half during their middle school years. Our kids would have preferred they play more, but they were clearly among the bottom players on their respective teams. Both stuck with it, with one eventually becoming a starter and the other now playing about a third of the game. As for CW, I personally have no problem if he plays some ECNL players less than 25% of the time, assuming it is based on the player’s talent level, impact in games, and effort level and progress in practices. I’d have a problem if he was awarding playing time on factors unrelated to talent and effort, such as giving more playing time to kids whose parents are on the board. It doesn’t sound like this is the case. Rather, CW gives more playing time to his better players. I hate to break it to you, but that’s how it should work at these older ages for ECNL teams. |
