Preschool and Daycare Discussion
| Thanks pp, unfortunately i don't have a back up - got into the race late and only had 2 schools left where registration had not closed...sigh |
| if this is any help.... we applied for the two's class 2 years ago and we were number 12 on the Mt Olivet wait list.. i had some small optimism, but we never got a call. Thankfully we got in somewhere else (a rolling admissions list), so it was not a big deal. |

Rock Spring anybody???
Lottery was earlier this week I think? |
| Heard from Rock Spring yesterday! We got a space. |
| Congrats on Rock Spring! What year? 1.5, 2,3,4? Thanks! |
| 1.5 class for rock spring. We're very excited. PP are you at rock spring? |
|
No--not a current family.
Waiting to hear on 2s. BUT, doesn't bode well for us if slots were communicated yesterday. Oh well.....
Congrats to you! |
| We are number 65 & 82. It looks like homeschooling again this year... |
| Good luck to PP waiting for rock spring 2s spot. I hope you hear soon! |

Think Rockspring placements happened last week.it's probably wait list city if you haven't heard yet... (unless somebody they offered declines and selects another school).
We like Rock Spring and Olivet but Early Years is our top choice so we are waiting on pins and needles!!!! They make placements next week!
Good luck to all! |
did u read the other posts about early years? got some shady reviews. this shouldn't obviously deter you but might just be good to read up? good luck. |
I know two people who send their kids to Early Years and they are happy there. One of the moms did say there was some turnover last spring and a lot of people left, but she decided to keep her son there, and it has been fine. I think whatever happened last year has worked itself out. |
Is there a link to these reviews? I searched DCUM but could not find any specific reviews on EY. I talked to a few parents who gave great reviews (they did say that last year there was teacher turnover and some issues at the time but it was raised and dealt with. And honestly for every school we applied (Olivet, Rock Spring, Kinhaven etc) I seem to hear about a few 'rough edges' that ultimately seem to be resolved. For early years, I went to their tour and was very impressed with their classrooms- bright and cheery, 2 teachers (not co-op) to a small group of children and all classrooms were organized and kids engaged in the activity. They seem to have a walkie talkie system with the Director so that teachers never need to leave the classroom which seemed very safe to me. The only thing that I didn't like was that they don't seem to go off campus for things (they invite people in). It's not a deal breaker for me though.... If there are concerns, I'd love to know about them so that I can inquire with the parents I know. Thanks! |

Got our rockspring waitlist number today. It's not too bad (not great, but not bad either compared to Olivet and others which are in double and triple digits).
But does the waitlist really move or no at Rockspring? I know it really doesn't move at Olivet. Was actually confused by their note that the waitlist ordering (and therefore our number) isn't necessarily telling in terms of likelihood to get a spot because it did not include siblings, priority members etc. I thought those priority people had a certain time period to apply in January before slots/waitlist was opened up to the general public? But sounds like they then allow those who missed the deadline to go right to the top of the list even though they didn't apply originally? Does that sound accurate? Guess I'm confused because Rockspring seems to do different from Olivet or others who only give priority status during priority registration (vs. after the open process has occurred). Those schools don't seem to bump the waitlist down if a priority person decided late in the game to apply. They only tend to bump based on mix for gender and age. But seems rock spring is different? Thanks for any insight if you have! |
