I need something larger than Mazda5 but not as gigantic feeling as a Hylander or Palisades

Too bad they stopped making the Mazda 5. We love ours. No idea how to replace it.

If you just want an SUV of some sort, checkout the Mazda CX7 and CX9. Be warned that the CX9 is the size of a Highlander/Palisade but looks more svelt because of it's more tucked styling.

I had a Chevy Equinox for many years and hauled 2x4's. No big deal.

+1 many 2x4s (and 2x10s) fit comfortably in my subaru forester.

But it’s a 5 seater, no?

OP, the highlander is the smallest of the bigger SUV’s. Unless you are willing to drive a 5-seater, 2 row SUV, I don’t think you are going to find anything smaller than Highlander.

What about a Rogue?

Or a Honda HRV? A bit smaller than a CRV.

I love my Mazda5. Wish car manufacturers would see there is a market for this size vehicle. No idea what I'll do when mine runs it course.

None of these are "larger than Mazda5" as OP is looking for.
